There would have been no DR1 without the much earlier iconic Sopwith, incidently I met Sir Tommy Sopwith back in the late eighties, he was a really down to earth man, and I will cherish the memory of that day forever

The Tripehound was out of front-line service before the Germans came out with their Dr1. I don't believe they ever fought against each other.

It looks like a replica of the Black Flight Sopwith Triplanes.
Which one?

Triplanes were slow but very manoeurvable. Like Billy Bishop, I would take my SE5A very high, then dive down, shoot, zoom back up. Again and again. No defence except to go for head on collision. Phantom F4s similar - go vertical, scissors. RAFVR, here.

I like the Fokker Dr.1, but the Sopwith was really a better airplane-more power, faster, better climb rate.

Was Sopwith Triplane in action during WW1? Never heard of that model before, very interesting!

Have the two triplanes ever combat face-to-face during the first world war?

Airdrome Aeroplanes needs to make a replica Tripehound. Shouldn’t require too many modifications from their Pup kit.
Their Dr.1 looks goofy 🙃 with external bracing.

Looked like the Sopwith more maneuverable, could out fly the fokker, were they out at about the same time of WWI? Big advances fast in aviation during the war years. Like WW2, airplanes advanced fast!

Too bad these two planes have modern engines. The originals had no throttle so the ignition had to be be blipped on and on when taxiing. A very different sound. Still, nice aircraft!
