"I don't want to be a burden of this society when I come" that is the voice of a true immigrant, refugee if you could say. Someone who came to a new land to make something out of what he had. How proud he must be.

He's the commander of the ship that just pissed the Chinese off in the south China sea. He's a brave man. And a good skipper.

...and he gets to command one of the newest and best ships in the Navy. This is not so much a story about a Vietnamese immigrant becoming a U.S. Navy Commander, as it is about the hard work ethic and character of this young man.

This is no place for disrespectful words, we are all here to honor a man who fled his country at such a young age and yet has come to represent our nation through service with honor, bravery and courage! Sir, I salute you, well done!

This is not a isolated case. My family came to the US in 1975.
Three years ago, My youngest brother became a commander in the navy. He served in the Carl Vinson aircraft carrier.

Wow, I am continually impressed with the ability of the Vietnamese to integrate into our society while retaining their own heritage. They have established themselves as hard-working and highly intelligent people.

I was on the USS Morton DD 948 and we rescued 52 Vietnamese refugees, one came to a ships reunion a few years ago and is now a lawyer.

The people of the United States should be very proud of this Navy commander. He is proof positive that you can do and be anything you want in this country.
