I have decided that non-compliance is the only option. I fly scratch built foamies, quads and the occasional 3d printed model. I quit paying attention to what the "rules" say. I just build what I want, and fly on my own property or on friends properties. I live in the middle of nowhere though and I know the urban-dwellers can't get away with as much.

So sad what they have done. We need more people like you Bruce, I’m 15 and I’m deeply concerned about regulations like those in the UK or CAN coming up in the model aviation side to the USA.

the copy/paste method of contacting representatives is very common here in the US. It's more about quantity of contacts than quality. They're not reading the letters anyway, but if they see thousands of the same letter then they realize that there is a large group that cares about something. Mass non-compliance will be more effective. And our hobby doesn't have any champions in Congress like other causes, we really need to get someone directly involved with a congress-critter.

When I fly, I fly for myself. I assume all responsibility for safety and security. I respectfully will speak for myself and my own actions. My track record is flawless in regards to safety and security. A CBO does not assume liability for my actions or anyone else and cannot provide guarantee of safety and security.

I may be a criminal, but I have a flawless record.

The CAA and the local airport (in the UK) did a similar thing, they proposed a new stacking arrangement that moved the approach path to a rapidly growing airport over previously peaceful rural villages. They carried out a 'consultation' which listed several equally objectionable options; over 90% of respondents said 'none of these options', so they chose the option that had, clearly, been decided well ahead of time. The change to the approach path has made a pleasant day in the garden an impossibility due to the level of noise from aircraft every 90 seconds.

very much agree with you all the way. people won't wake up and make smart choices and there are pilots that are horribly making things worse for people and the FAA wont budge on any rules and "bullying" they get away with. I hope Canada, here, does better. Thanks for all you do Bruce!

Hi Bruce, thank you for your brilliant channel.
As an ex aircraft engineer in the U.K., I can tell you with personal experience that the U.K. CAA is a profit making organisation. This means that it’s in their best interests to create as many revenue streams as possible - in this case, no doubt charging for registration, operator number etc etc etc.
I fail to understand how any “regulation” over and above operating a drone or model within “x” distance of a commercial or military airfield is necessary.
Of course, everyone understands that rules must exist preventing idiots from flying their stuff next to a 737 landing or taking off, but all this other stuff is utter overkill.
Basically, what they want is to make money from any sort of enjoyment.
My opinion, for what it’s worth.

You are the man Bruce, I don't know how we get people to listen to you, they think they know better than you and nothing will change their minds. You got me into FPV with your videos many years ago. I now own over 30 drones, about half of them I built myself. I taught a Boy Scouting class where 18 boys build and learned to fly FPV 5" drones thanks to you. Please keep up the great work. That's them and me in my avatar 👍I'm the old fart with the beard.

I sent out letters to both my senator and the state representative and I even added my two cents worth to those letters stating that the FAA is going to crush my only hobby as a senior citizen. All I received were generic BS letters back just thanking me for contacting them. What a waste of time. I have now decided to go rogue and be an outlaw. Enough is enough!!

I just saw that Ken Heron and Josh Bardwell put a news anchor in FPV goggles and gave him an FPV experience, which is fine. Buuut - they flew around and in the local news office, up and down the radio tower, around dishes and guy wires. Everyone was hysterical with the idea that the newsman might puke from the FPV experience, then they flew inside and arounds the desks and such. It was a real spectacle, but I'm wondering if this is the best approach. I would not have flown there, as there was just too much potential of danger and damage. I wonder if they checked the RF spectrum beforehand to determine the potential for a connection loss, being next to a broadcast antenna. Is that what we have to do to get people to think of things from our perspective? Do we have to be sensational to be left alone in the park or in the country flying our airplanes? Pretty disappointing to think this is the only way to sway public opinion. Thanks for what you do, Bruce.

Great video Bruce . Even though not a drone flyer I see a lot of parallels ..over regulation here with QLD gov. I need a domestic electrical lic to service medical equip (which use a lot higher standard)
As for Stem .. I run a kids tech ed fortnightly and a high student, that attends, cannot join in STEM because the public school he goes to, said he needed an A in English . Most people that are in STEM did poorly in English 🤣

Regarding regulations, thats just government for you. Take "green energy" for example, they love it. But in my country you need to pay thousands of euros to the municipality, just to get a 12v micro turbine approved for you shed - Doesnt matter that there is 800m to the next neighbor. And the Turbine has to be CE approved, so that rules out any DIY or experimenting in your garden, no matter how small a turbine you make... They say they want kids interrested in STEM and green energy and what not, and then ban anyone from experimenting at home.

"Sacrificing one's freedom for the sake of temporary safety is not a worthy trade-off, and that those who do so are undeserving of either liberty or safety". This quote has been used to argue against excessive government surveillance and other measures that restrict individual freedom in the name of security, and to promote the importance of protecting civil liberties in a free society

Unfortunately it is easier for people to REACT by sitting back and complaining about something rather than being PROACTIVE and working to prevent it...

There is only really one way to deal with this issue now if you want to fly safely without being over-regulated. Don't buy new drones that have the mandated ID built in and simply ignore all the crap that the authorities are demanding. The hobby as it was is already dead and despite the continued efforts of a few people like Bruce, nothing is going to change that, because the community is divided and too insignifficant in any case for the politicins to take any notice of. I will continue to fly as i always have, within all the sensible rules but ignoring all the other nonsonse that is being forced on us. I think the battle (if it ever was a battle) is well and truly over at this point.

This has been a long long long unchecked problem with the 3 letter bureaucracies in the US. Not just the FAA. Sadly voices of warning are often unheard until they are just echos in the halls of regret.
