Revisiting Goosebumps As An Adult [Part 1]

Sure, Goosebumps was creepy as a kid, when I didn't know any better. But what about now, with my superior adult intellect?! Let's take this children's horror book series way too seriously and do a deep dive into the first two stories of the series: Welcome to Dead House and Stay out of the Basement.

The first in a series? Possibly? Adult beware, you're in for a scare!

Man, the copies of the books you have are immaculate. Did you buy them recently, from someone who kept them all in amazing condition? Or are they yours from childhood that you kept in amazing shape? Or do they somehow still sell the older style original books?

Wish I still had my childhood Goosebumps books, but those are long gone.

The flower joke at the end of the book scared the willies out of me as a kid. The existential horror of not ever being able to be sure your dad was really you dad and he wasn't trapped as some poor flower outside was too much for me.

When Amanda said “I used to live in your house, ” I always took it as a hint that they may have actually died because this is what all the dead kids said.
I pictured them not getting far in their car because they’d get really hungry and realize they don’t want food they want to eat people, so they’d end up coming back and helping start the town over.

I absolutely love this and hope it becomes a series!

Would 100% love to see you cover the whole series! It’s so interesting going back and seeing what scared us as kids and how it actually looks now.

Editing - 5 funny bones
Reminder that life is disappointing and I am old - 5 spine shivers
Nostalgia - priceless

Not sure if you ever encountered them but Goosebumbs had these "Choose your own scare" choose your own adventure books that were pretty fun.
I specifically remember the "Diary of a Mad Mummy" being good

"The first in a series? Possibly? Adult beware, you're in for a scare!' John, you can't tease me like this. I would go to war if you made this a series because I LOVE seeing people looking back at Goosebumps/R.L. Stein in general and react to the weirdness and genuine horror he created!

Man, Goosebumps was my childhood. I think my favorites were the Terror Tower, the Haunted Mask one and the camera. I do believe my love for horror games and movies begun with these books.

I have no objections to you making a whole series going over every Goosbumps book! Super fun video, John!

I do not care if I am an adult. Still I am only 33 but when I am 53 I will still be re watching these Goosebumps episodes. They are part of my childhood. I have a boring office job and do what I gotta do as an adult to keep myself healthy mentally and physically. Watching my childhood tv shows and playing videogames along with my hobbies are part of that. There is a magic in each of these episodes. I imagine myself wearing my coverse shoes (which I still wear), jeans, flower print t shirt, colorful watch, braids and go on a creepy neighborhood to see if something creepy or goosebumps-like might happen. Nothing like watching an episode with candles on in my living room with my siblings. Even my parents still join in sometimes to watch an episode or two. They were well filmed and written.

I was born in 2000 and I practically grew up watching and reading Goosebumps. Funny to see Don't Go Into The Basement again as an adult, it actually scared me as a kid. Strangely enough what scared me the most as a kid was the lady in the billboard changing and the dogs eyes turning evil in the Goosebumps opening theme. I would literally cover my eyes.

I never knew Dead House was the first book, judging by the tagline I thought it was really late in the series when they had run out of ideas. "It will just kill you" is so (unintentionally??) hilarious to me

You have me on the edge of my seat hoping you're going to drop episode 2 before Halloween.

As a young teen I was hooked on R.L. Stine's "Fear Street" series, I read every single book in the series and even wrote to R.L. Stine to tell him he was my favorite 🤓

Goosebumps reviews? Hell yes! This is such a fun video format. I'm loving the dad jokes and little skits. Hope you make many more of these c:
I wasn't allowed to watch the goosebumps TV episodes as a kid because they gave me nightmares, so I'm excited to learn how the adaptations measure up to the books!

I love Goosebumps books. Whether it be hearing the show's iconic theme or doing a read of one of the books years ago, this series holds a special place in my heart.
