Interstellar Theme – Cello

Cello arrangement of the main theme from "Interstellar", composed by Hans Zimmer.

I finally had the chance to see Interstellar in IMAX, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. The movie is incredibly immersive, precise and impactful. The score is one of Hans Zimmer’s best - he did an incredible job of conveying the finality and speculation of the film, as well as the themes of bleak exploration and the loneliness of inevitability. Please enjoy my interpretation of a prominent theme from this score.

Just what is it about this simple melody that we find so touching and so profound? After all, It is just a few notes strung together in a chain. The notes make vibrations in our ears, we then interpret them with our brain as wonderful. Chemicals are then stimulated that are sent to the feeling side of our emotions, we can't really explain the manner in which 'sound' is making us react, but we know somehow, that we adore the way we feel. We are then moved and exhilarated, with tears sometimes. Somehow we are in a place that we love being in, we yearn for more of this place. Either you feel it or you don't, either you love it or you don't. Either it makes you feel love or it does not, either you are moved in your heart or you are not. For me, I can say... I JUST CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THIS MUSIC! I FEEL IT DEEPLY.

I love the cello above any instrument and wish I had been bold enough to ask for lessons instead of fear of laughter since everyone else adored the piano, drums or saxophone but listening to all the new talent with the older more experienced talent of playing the cello I am more overwhelmed with my fetish of the cello more than ever. that it actually consumes my thoughts above anything else with the most inner peacefulness and content more than anything else. Which in many ways I believe that is how each cellist feels with their cello. I thank each for their own soul with their cello that creates such a divine difference & beauty to each musical piece they define in their own musical divination from each other. They to me are a symphony in themselves.
