I just finished my 5 years on the JET Program. Best five years of my life. It’s not for everyone, and the “Every Situation Is Different” is so real. ALTs have so many roles, there are so many kinds of schools, apartments, and area placements. I enjoyed all of mine, but not everyone does and many only do 1-2 years, or even break contract.

I'm currently a JET ALT at an inaka school. I love my job so much. My colleagues and students are really nice and considerate. Sometimes I'm busy, sometimes not. I thought I would be having a hard in my placement (Hokkaido) due to it's hash winter season (I come from a tropical country), but I now love living in Hokkaido.
However, it's not all about good things. For example, the economy of my city is not doing well atm, so there are only few shops that are still open. Only one bus line going around the city, winter is very harsh here, no movie theater or anytypes of recreational facilities (so we need to spend some cash just to go to bigger cities like Sapporo, etc. Also, I know of one ALT whose supervisor in one of her schools wasn't really helping her out especially during her first few months, so she asked for help from other ALTs nearby. Some ALTs were given way too much tasks and were assigned as T1 to grade school students even though they don't have any Japanese skills. Some were just deskwarming all day. If you're lucky with the placement, you'll be able to enjoy your time as an ALT. If not, it will depend on how you'll deal with your situation.
For the nomikais, to be honest, I am one of the teachers who doesn't go to these events often. Everyone in my school knows I don't drink alcohol. They still try to invite me. I would only go at least once, especially if it's a very special occasion. Also, half of my JTEs do not attend these events, so we're on the same page lol. We just pull out our own "reasons not to join this time" card when invited.

Overall, my experience in the program is great.

Arigatō for this wonderful video. I'm Morgan, but if I get the change to live in Japan, call me モーガン 😅. I am studying and teaching myself and my 4 year old Japanese. We have Katakana, Kanji, Romanji, and Hiragana workbooks, and she fell in love with Anpanman. Thank you for this channel. You have a new subscriber and maybe you will interview me in the future! 💕💕

I have just watched a video by One Pack Wanderers in Amamioshima, and have been watching English teaching videos as I am studying TESOL. The Youtube algorithm brought me to this video which is really cool 😊

Was going to do JET back in 2012 with an internet friend but the requirements were crazy and most countries still required a BA, specifically in English, to teach in their country. So I went the TESL route instead and finished up my degree in th emeantime, started off in Thailand, and 11 years later, I've built my own online teaching platform whereas I teach people from around the globe through my own schedule. Amazing being an entrepreneur and very grateful that I didn't take up teaching in Japan because I would've have developed the skills that are money-makers: IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, GMAT, etc....the more you learn, the more specialities you're good at, th emore you earn.

The JET Program seems like a a great opportunity to start working in Japan, but one problem that doesn't appear in the video is the huge disparity of positions available depending on countries... Anglophone countries are extremely favored with hundreds of participants, even for smaller countries (120 for Ireland, 59 for Singapore, 182 for New Zealand, etc).
In comparison, there are only 20 participants for France, 13 for Brazil or 2 for Mexico... As a consequence, the competition in those countries is huge.
For example, last year, in the case of France, there were only 4 positions available (only CIR, not ALT btw) and therefore the chosen candidates all had JLPT N1 and most of them already had work experience in Japan...

considering this. I've always wanted to see Japan in general to see a different yet similar culture to mine. However, I'm apprehensive about it cause I'm Native American/Black, and afraid I'd not fit in too much.... well I never fit in anywhere. I am learning Japanese cause I learned from friends, and their families. I like your festivals since they sound a lot like ours too.

宜しくお願い致します。

These questions are interested.
The question i would like to ask is "Can anyone be able to make a manga even though he/she is not Japanese"
