Bargaining continues to try to prevent nurses strike in New York City

We are just over a day away from when thousands of New York City nurses say they'll walk off the job if their needs aren't met. If their union and their hospitals can't agree by Monday morning, a strike will take place. CBS2's Jennifer Bisram reports.

When nurses strike because of staffing shortages, they're fighting for better care for you and your loved ones. Stressed out, over-worked nurses are a danger to everyone. I know because I was one.

I can't pretend to know the shit show of the last few years. But as a Nursing graduate of 1995 that worked in NC I can tell you this is NOT NEW.

Not getting any breaks is NOT NEW
Not getting proper orientation is NOT NEW.
Not having enough RNs for the patient load is NOT NEW.
Having negative patient outcomes due to staffing and training is NOT NEW.
Not being supported by administration when things go wrong is NOT NEW.

We endured all this in the 90s and 00s and no one listened

A lot of this could be solved by determining who and who is not actually good at their job. Too many bad nurses have the same pay and benefits as bad nurses... and there are definitely good and bad nurses out there. Get rid of the bad nurses so you can pay the good nurses more.

They’ll just activate the guard, like what they’ve been doing for all undermanned positions due to inadequate pay. We’ve been short on 911 operators for a few years now. So the guard is doing the same job for less.

Vilified and ostracized for not taking a covid shot, and now they want to prevent a strike? 🤣 Sucks to live in NY. Like the rail strike I was disappointed in, I hope they do strike and get everything they demand. Sick and tired of seeing corporate America win at the expense of the little man. Too many people are scared to hit them where it hurts. Maybe if people had more of a spine we wouldn't have such a hard time getting what we're worth. My momma is a nurse and having to take care of multiple (mostly elderly) patients by herself. It's a scary thing when one could code at any time while you're helping another.

Father, I ask that you wrap your arms around our Nurses, Union Representatives, and Hospital Representatives please talk to them and bring guidance into their lives with your word.. Many of these hospital systems are too admin heavy, low on frontline workers. They could cut their admin by half to pay those do the actual work.
