Mini $5 DIY Tesla Coil Kit From Wish - Build & Test

I bought a cheap DIY mini Tesla coil kit from Wish for $5. In this video, I'll show you what arrived, how I put it together and how it works. It's actually quite a nice kit and is really easy to build yourself, even if you're a newbie to electronics.

Here are the links to the products:

Not everyone is happy with shopping off of Wish and they can have quite long shipping times, so I've included a link above to the equivalent product available on Amazon, although it does cost a little more.

If you'd like me to try out assembling or testing any other kits or products from Wish, let me know in the comments section below.

Friend (which is a prof. in EE) told me that its not the same how the primary coil is wired so according to his comments on the topic I tweaked mine coil a bit so here are mine findings: I found out that best is to use 2 loops in opposite winding direction to the secondary coil and covering only first 25-30% of the secondary coil. The power consumption (using 12V) dropped from 6W to 4.5W and the spark grow up to 2mm bright one and 5-7mm thin dim ending. My original coil had ~7 loops and had the same winding direction as secondary coil and covered ~90% of it... while tweaking the same direction with 2.5 loops 25% coverage did not even start up the resonance (no spark and LED was not shining at all with only ~1W consumption) ... Also interestingly puttng a load (like light bulb) near spark decrease power consumption (which in my former coil was increasing power consumption instead). Also now my coil is powerfull enough to light up even big 100W light bulb (connecting the secondary coil ending to one pin of ligh bulb and ground to the glass like holding in hands close to the inner wires) producing awesome shiny and wide sparks in low preassure gas up to ~1cm long on both wire endings inside the bulb

do you think you could increase output voltage just by lowering the amount of turns in the primary coil?

You should have attached your transistors to the heat sinks before soldering them to the board.

Power supply ? It's written on the board at 1:12 -- DC15-24v, for those who don't bother to look !!

Is there a new source for this?
Both those links seem to be discontinued anymore

Thank you for showing this
I couldn’t believe i found someone who got the same kit.
I was fumbling with the Chinese directions as well. Then did the translation as well
Also wasn’t 100% sure which each red light was indicating.
Tried it with a 9V transformer, but the current was to high, my heat sync was getting hot. Lol
I by mistake had the secondary coil downwards and i had soldered in the white light bulb into J3 I’m trying to get a better look on your primary coil winding.
Will 4 times around on the primary be fine I’m guessing.
And I will try it again ....
Thanks again

This kit is 1.89 euro on Ali ( bundle deals) If you don't see it appear in your bundle deals then put it in your regular cart but don't pay for it. Then it will probably appear in your bundle deals for the mentioned price.

Mine isn’t working it came without a cable so I used a small silicon wire. I am new to this, do I need a special wire?

I bought two kits from Temu. The largrer one appears to be similar to this one. If haven't assembled it yet but have put together the smaller one. It came with no power supply so I used one that was included in the large kit. After assembly the coil appeared to be working but the LED inside prewound coil wouldn't light up. The small test bulb that was included did light up when brought close but there was no plasma discharge. A regular sized flourecent bulb lit up as well but not very bright. I didnt know how to attach the main coil to PCB board so I used some poster tack putty stuff. It wasn't quite enough and the coil moved around and eventually came off, loosening the copper wire. After making repairs and using more putty, the LED worked and a plasma discharge was visible. Now the light bulb lights up very bright. Have no idea what else I can do with this Tesla coil so if know of anything lmk. I'm going to assemble the larger kit once I get some more solder. Does the prewound coil have to be perfectly sealed? I noticed the use of a flashlight to test it. Your coil appears to have an arrow to indicate which way is up. Does that matter for performance? The smaller kit didn't have as many pieces is probably not anywhere near the same design but I figured I'd ask. Great video, Sir! Thanks for sharing it with us.

overall a good video, but I'm gutted you sped past the secondary coil installation, I don't know what to do with it...

I purchased what appears to be the same or at least similar product
Instructions were all in Chinese as well. I did manage to get the coil working but could not seem to get any sound also 1 of my led's lights up bright but I did not notice that in yours I'm not sure if the correct led is lighting or maybe I have done something wrong any ideas?
And where does the sound actually come out from as there is no speaker in this circuit?

thanks for this I just assembled this on my own for my friend and was curious why the bulb light was shipped with this and how to safely to test this... I do not speak nor read chinese and have no english description...After finding your video I found the answer :). Also just in case what voltage to use? I experimentaly (using lab power source) deduced 12V 0.5A

Hahahaha I’m goin to put a bigger cap too see if I can pump up the sparks lol. Wish me luck.
