4:38 the gray circles overlapping the white lines causes the lines to form edges at the perfect time for the white circles to appear connected when looking at the centre of the square

4:18 its the edges of the circles moving in and out, hitting the edge of the square. our eyes connect that to the dots since they are pretty much moving in the same pattern, giving us a weird illusion. Now I'm only guessing, but I think I'm right

As the circles move towards the lines, it acts almost like staring at a light then looking away and seeing the shape of the light. Our brains trick us into seeing all the lines form into a shape that moves.

The hidden scary face is just behind the couch pillow and if you want to see it, don't see it too soon cuz it could give you a little jump. It looks like a person just looking out from the pillow.

The moment the dots leave the circle a bit of the square turns dark making us think that it's being covered up by the non existend structure. It seems to be the same as with the circles and the imagenary star

Regarding the dots-and-circles illusion, I wonder if it has to do with the circles. I made a replica of this optical illusion on WarioWare DIY (for Nintendo DS) and an octagon-shaped illusory contour showed up regularly in the gaming stage after only the circles were programmed. After all dots were programmed, the shape of the contour changed into a curved diamond---the shape of the contour in the demonstration of the optical illusion showed in this video. The contour must be caused by the circles and directed by the dots.

The dots connect to the white lines for an instant, and our brains want to keep the lines connected to the dots. I think that's why that happens.

The dots are forcing the brain to develop an image. If you look at the animation again, the dots travel into the circles at the exact moment the circles move into the square. At this point the dots seems like they're 'stretching' each side of the square underneath the circle. Even without the other three circles and dots; a single side produces a decent illusion. Combined; the stretching illusion the dots make form a diamond. This is just my theory.
