Thankyou everyone for your honest feedback on Califlower Mk2, particularly with the pricing.

It's quite clear that I messed this up, I made a poor decision so will be working to correct it. I'll be making a new video on the changes when I've determined fully what they will be but I'm also sick at the moment so not ideal for talking or being on camera. I hope to have corrections sorted for you next week.

The money grab feels real on this one. It was a nice $5 tool you bought once and got a perfectly functional excel spreadsheet. Now you are charging $10/year for a website calculator when the excel was fine. The website does seem more user friendly than the old excel spreadsheet, but just raise the price to one time $10 or something. Enough with the subscription model. This is very much a buy once tool.

Thank you for the MK2 but an subscription is a showstopper for me. 😢

Subscription is a no go for me no matter how fair you do it.

The only way I’ve ever seen a sub model done right is with Jetbrains, in that they provide support + all updates during your subscription period, then when your sub runs out if you choose not to renew, you can keep using the last version you had paid for during your sub in perpetuity.

If you could make it such that the sub once cancelled no longer had support from you + any future versions of the tool aren’t available BUT the older version is then I would consider it

It hurts that it didn't take to much for your product to become a subscription.

5€ was a really nice price for a little tool and very simple tool.
it's not like this is a complicated/complex tool either, so the previous price was totally perfectly adiquate.
honestly sad how little it took for you to make this a subscription.

I agree with the disdain towards the subscription model. If anything, id be willing to buy a one-time lifetime subscription for a bit more money. Or have the current tier of Excel spreadsheet for those with the experience and the subscription for those who want the extra data/functionality.

Will there be plans to expand on the tool?

This doesn't feel great. There is a good amount of value added to this tool now, and I think charging maybe another price to 'upgrade' is fine, but I don't believe there are any ongoing costs which would necessitate a subscription. You are probably not incurring a cost any more than you might have with the excel file.

Without access I can't confirm but, it looks like all the calculations are happening in the local browser. Are you doing anything on a server you own?

I did NOT hear about you having Leukemia! That’s horrible, but glad you’re beating it!

Here’s to hoping healthcare (and Insurance for that matter…) are on the up and up!

a tool like this should NEVER be subscription based.

Absolutely loved the first version.
Had actually hoped this to be the next incarnation of that.
But like so many I'm not ready to step up to a subscription that will either expire after a period or have to have even a monthly. These type of things usually result in somebody forgetting that they have it and while I know the arguement is you can just subscribe make the payment and then cancel it and have the remainder of that one off It means that you don't actually have a product you're buying you're buying a service.
As such I will have to decline. I am rather sad to see this. Maybe consider having the subscription but also a fair one-off payment for a stand-alone offline version. At that point you may capture the rest of them if it's reasonable.

My suggestion would be to add a 'lifetime' option. Make it $25 or something. I'd rather pay $25 one time than $10 per year. It's psychological, sure, but still...

Sorry, but another subscription model is a no-go. Have the V1, would have purchased an upgrade if it was a one time purchase.
The web based calculator makes the risk even higher, as I would be dependent on you hosting it for the forseeable future.
Unsubscribed, I'm out of here.

Have you been thinking about making it an electron app so you can use it as an offline tool? Then you can even increase the price a bit. I think it's more psychological hurdle for consumers then that it's a bad offering or tool.

is the calilantern gonna see a mk2 next?

The amount of R&D in making the tool, getting the usability and accessibility just right, revising the design, etc. is evident. Even still, it's a tough sell for consumer 3D printers.
