This video presents a demonstration of the level of query performance that can be achieved for data warehouses and data marts in SQL Server Denali with the new columnstore index and enhanced query execution capability. Performance in this demonstration when using a columnstore index improves on the order of a stunning 50 times for a single query. This is for the same data on the same hardware, compared to the previous release of SQL Server when running the query over a fact table stored in a PAGE-compressed clustered B-tree index ordered by date. The bottom line is that users will get more business value out of their data and make better decisions with columnstore indexes in SQL Server because they can explore data much more interactively.
