One of the most beautiful interpretations of Continuum I've heard. That cembalo's sounds is absolutely gorgeous

Happy to see my Iranian patriot Mahan naild it on the harpsichord. He’s a wonderful Bach interpreter and admirer.

I would be hard-pressed if asked to define "what is music"? But there is much here, presumably all by Ligeti, which approaches an antithesis of music and I'm bewildered at how many parts of this can be seen as possessing any qualities of "beauty". At the same time I'm fully aware that boundaries must not be placed on any directions that may be explored by any of the arts. Personally, I'm thankful that much of Ligeti's works (not all, by any means) failed to stimulate any significant new directions in music.
However, no matter what my opinion of what is being performed, once again, this orchestra demonstrates it to be virtually without peer - anywhere! Both technically and interpretatively, the orchestra consistently shows itself to be among the best in the world, and I am so very thankful that it shares its performances on YouTube. Further, I must mention Antinoglu, unknown to me before he became, presumably, Chief Conductor. May his performances here continue to appear, at least, until the day I am no more.

100 metronomes? I see only 15. Didn't know this had been transcribed for chamber ensemble! Did Ligeti himself make the transcription?

All kidding aside, 100 metronomes make an extraordinary sound, and the piece can be quite startling and affecting.
But more, this is an extraordinary concert of wonderfully inventive and emotionally powerful music with fantastic performances throughout from start to finish.
And credit must be given to the spectacular video presentation, which so clearly captures the important moments in close up-- e.g., just check out the spot-on camera work during Aventures.

4:50 That last metronome echoing across the concert hall hits different…

The sound of the mechanisms of the clocks in the churches, always intrigued to G. Ligueti when he was a child

Love this large-scale programming in multiple « movements ». Maybe some explanations at the start of the concert would help the public understand the context of these works’ composition and the reason they were chosen, etc😊

What's the purpose of the Palestrina in the midst of all the Ligeti?

The time stamps are not quite correct.

10:10 "Rudder hard to port NOW! Tell the engine room full reverse! Gimme everything they got! We're about to collide with that LNG tanker!"

I don't know whether I'm listening to music, or an SFX sample library with these "contemporary" pieces.

La novità fine a sé stessa può anche rivelarsi una idiozia. Oggi purtroppo non si sa più dissentire, anzi se anche ci fossero fischi sarebbero considerati applausi.

I’m sorry, but this is a waste of the musicians’ gifts.

Goodness me, what rubbish! Must be fun to be in the orchestra and think "to think they pay me to play this garbage, ha ha ha". What pain to be in the audiende and have to sit through this and pretend you like it so that others won't think you are uncultured.
