great vid my dude! One additional tip that is SUPER helpful when comping vocals: you can just click on a take lane then click T to toggle that take lane on and off. instead of having to go and click the speaker icon. HUGE quality of life improvement the day I learned that hahah

I was just casually enjoying this video, and then I saw the Mark Barlow folder and I was like Dope to see people in the Christian space making solid content like this, props!

One hack that really works for me is using a blank MIDI track just for labeling Parts - like intro, chorus, etc. You create say an 8 bar blank MIDI clip for the bridge - and then you can easily “grab”
It to export audio, or press Z to have that section fill the width of the screen - and even use the “info text” to write notes on what you want to do later in that section. The locators in Ableton are all tiny and don’t allow these features

Awesome, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Some game-changing Arrangement View shortcuts that I spent ages to find and that I use on a daily basis (some require Computer MIDI Keyboard to be off):
- ctrl + shift + D for duplicate + push back
- ctrl + shift + dragging scrolls the part of an audio clip that is in view
- ctrl + alt + shift + dragging does the above but without snapping to the time grid
- ctrl + space to instantly play the current selection only
- r to reverse the current selection, 0 to disable it, ctrl + L to loop it
- z to zoom in horizontally, z again to also zoom in vertically on the current selection
- x to undo zoom, x again to zoom all the way out

really helpful video! I would love to hear more stories/takes from and on the music industry. It's really special that somebody like you is making videos like these, when I first started producing in 8th grade, there weren't ANY "industry professionals" on youtube making videos on music production. You're one of the only producer creators I have notifications on for!
edit: I really liked the "mediocre parts make a mediocre whole" segment of the video. I've had this problem for a while and only recently started to realize I need to spend more time on sound selection

imo a better system for the backup system is to just use Time Machine (on Mac). It will automatically backup your entire computer to an external hard drive and you can retrieve past versions of a project if need be

when i first saw this pop up I thought "wow great another really helpful video probably uploaded many years ago that slipped under my radar".. have been finding a lot of helpful videos that are a few years old lately and I can feel like I'm wasting my time. This video was exactly what I needed now I guess that's Gods plan

Another tip related to keyboard shortcuts and working efficiently. Insert a blank midi clip at the top of your project and make it the exact length of your track. When you're ready to export you just have to highlight the clip and then ctr, shift, R. This way you don't need to use locators and highlight the area every time.

15:30 - I'm thinking a bit differently, basically instead of band I have frequency spectrum and some common sense (by common sense I mean not to combine 5 guitars playing 5 different melodies in the same frequencies)

Watching it...I believe this is a good one, as always. Thanks for sharing. Ref tracks used to be a part of my production but I ignored that one day even the section is still in my template. I definitely need to get that back, back on track.

Great video. The “think like a band” hack is one that has helped me a lot. For exporting, I make an empty midi track called length at the top of the project which is the export length and click on it before hitting cmd-shift-r.
