I watched this noir last night and I've thought about it all day--it is a quirky but suspenseful little film with undertones of gallows humor throughout. The two escorts--Herschel Bernardi and Phillip Pine--kind of a Mack and Myer for hire duo--bow and arrow practice in a hotel room--Lol! Strong and interesting performance by Vince Edwards. Thanks, Detective, Murder by Contract is a new favorite of mine.

Nobody like Vince Edwards. So cool, calm and collected. He was a pleasure to watch like many of his generation. I see the suits😊 and clothes he wears. What a great time for understated elegance. Love his suits!

Great find, Detective.Saw that bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon, classic beer still made today. Also saw in the opening credits Vince Edwards using Old Spice which I still use today.1958, great year for classic car fans, everything on the road from the 1930's to 1958! Spotted a Model A Ford going by and a 1958 Ford pulling up to the "victims" house.Another great Friday night of Noir thanks to you Detective.Until next time.( salutes on the way out).

Hi Detective pal. I really enjoyed this move. Vince Edwards reminded me a little of a young Mel Gibson and I thought he was great in this. What I enjoyed most was the guitar sound track provided by Perry Botkin since you brought his name up, which I greatly appreciate, I looked at his resume' which is a mile long ! To my surprise, he was born in the early 1900's, an Ohio native, and would have been in his mid 50's when he did this guitar background music. I expected him to be more of a younger rock & roller. I do remember his jazzy guitar lines from The Beverly Hillbillys, especially when Elly Mae was in the scene. Then I discover that he did a tune called " The Ballad of Elly Mae " ! I would watch this movie again just to listen to the guitar playing. Simple, yet effective. Then I see that his son, Perry Botkin jr, who recently passed away, had a long and prestigious musical resume' too, writing music and themes for many popular and more recent TV show, like Mork & Mindy, Young & Restless etc. Thanks again for these great movies, chum.

Herschel Bernardi also gained fame on TV Shows and voice overs for cartoons. Among his TV Shows were " Peter Gunn" and "Arnie". He also played the voice of "Charlie the Tuna" on Sunkist Tuna commercials.

Perhaps one contract will include going to a hospital to meet Ben Casey

Robert Mitchem should be driving this 1957 ford

Isn't a lot of the music the woman pianist is playing from a number of uncredited Bach pieces? Unless it was Perry Botkin himself who was able to construct those remarkably similar pieces? Does anyone here know?

At 15:59 a train arrives on a project Ed screen...the two men & the 1957 ford appear to be near the train but they are only near the projected image on the screen...this is how the world appears to us...we believe we are in the world when the opposite is true...the world is in our mind, as a projection, which means it doesn't exist in reality...

I wonder if the hitman character Claude from the video game Grand Theft Auto 3 was inspired by this film? Looks like him too!
