I played this all the time when I was little, and wanted to learn again. It's surprisingly simple!

To add a bit of decision making to the game (not really strategy), we would put the winnings in a separate stack. For each card you win, you can choose to put it on the bottom or the top of that stack. After the stack you're drawing cards from is empty, you start drawing from the stack of winnings and put new won cards into a separate stack again, etc.

I guess this does have an impact on the game in that you could front-load stronger cards and put weak ones in the back, try to make a choppy mix, etc. But ultimately it's still a game of luck and you pretty much win based on what you were dealt.

War can be played with more than 2 players also

It’s not a 2 player game. It can be 1 player since you don’t know any cards and 3 players to make it more fun. Single player can still be for 3 decks because again, you don’t know what any cards are

The way we play is like this, if the war start we draw 3 cards and the 4 one is you get to pick the cards you want but without looking and draw it and if the player has one card left he must use that card anyway the person with still most card will able to choose his card again.
