Systematic discrimination, COVID-19 and food insecurity rage on - and the busking continues.
This week I was on a paid day off to recognize Juneteenth. I learned 3 new songs, all favorites of mine, all performed by black women.
Destiny's Child - Survivor
Alicia Keys - If I ain't got you
Lauryn Hill / Fugees - Killing me Softly

I also learned the beautiful and emotional Lift every Voice and Sing.
"Introduced in 1900 as a poem by African-American educator and activist James Weldon Johnson to mark Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and later set to music by John Rosamond Johnson, "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was adopted by the NAACP as a song of faith and freedom"
