when dani and pelle had more chemistry in a four second kiss than dani and christian in their four year relationship

Its kind of interesting seeing her mom and dad leaving her, knowing she starts a new part of her life with a new “family”. We never see them again after this scene

The way the cult wave their hands around like that is actually an applauding in sign language

The way she sees her parents in the crowd for only the briefest of glimpses always gets to me. It feels like the moment Dani starts to truly accept the cult as her new family, her old one saying goodbye to her in that moment. The music is so beautiful and joyful, it feels like a homecoming. It always makes me feel such a mix of emotions: I don't like the cult but on the other hand Dani is truly alone in the world and in a way it feels happy she has this new "family" at least.

is anybody else getting the impression that the other girls are falling/failing the dance on purpose so Dani will be crowned, giving her an experience of deep joy and acceptance and love so she'll be more likely to stay with the cult?

I might be extra, but I can’t get over how content and confused she is about all the love she’s receiving. Almost as if she finally feels “held”. And that kiss from Pelle. It’s probably been a long time since she’s been kissed like that.

Pelle is such a fascinating character. He clearly knew that his friends would be killed. And he’s manipulating Dani to a degree.

But, I think he genuinely does care about her. And he’s convinced himself that she would be happier and better off with him and the cult.

That nose kiss thingy is the cutest shit

Her flowers on the crown are pulsing when pelle kisses her.
Also i am aware it is an effect of the drugs just like how when Christian found Simons body. To Christian he thought Simon was breathing, thats why you can see his lugs fill with air. Yet again though its just the effect of the hallucinogens he took. Theres no way by that point Simon was alive.

The real horror is that its look like a fairytale, but something horrible is happening to Dani. This love bombing is how cults fucks with people's mind

I love the part where her sister (the blond girl who walks in front of the camera at 3:20 and joins the girl on Dani’s left) comes in. She’s not exactly smiling—she seems to be glaring, in fact, and the music also falls just slightly at that moment. Sinister and artfully done.

I think it’s great that they literally *lift her up*, something Christian had been unable or unwilling to do for such a long time. She’d been pushed down or to the outer for so long, and now she is being celebrated, loved, literally supported and uplifted by this new community while Christian stands at the far outer

also notice how before pelle came in she was so unrelaxed.. yet as soon as soon as pelle even came into her sight the flowers began to pulse and she was relieved

the way the music swells when he kisses her

Yeah the cult getting her is disturbing and all, but what's even more disturbing is that how this woman has been erroded emotionally and left without any kind of kindness or support that we the audience literally feel a sense of relief, even briefly that she feels love and acceptance finally. A splendid movie.

In case someone hasn’t seen this with subtitles and is curious
1:30 “Are you tired?”
2:00 “We have our May Queen”
3:02 ”Welcome, welcome home”
3:11 “Incredible, congratulations”
3:14 “We love you”

Dani saying "Me? Why?" was actually quite cute. And the music playing when she's crowned is gorgeous. Feels more like a Disney family friendly movie with this.

I think an underrated part of this scene is when Dani starts speaking/understanding Swedish. I know she's all druggy and everything but I think that speaks to an overarching theme about cult indoctrination, and how they slowly break down your defenses until you are one with them. Her speaking Swedish and understanding it is symbolic of her slow but steady transition to becoming one of the cult members.

I'd sure be interested to see post-Midsommar Dani.

The flowers were technically pulsing before Pelle kissed her, but they did pulse ‘wider’ during the kiss lol

of COURSE some people think of this scene and long to be held in the way dani is, even if she is simply drugged and confused for the most part: its lovebombing. its a cult tactic for a reason. it WORKS. everyone wants to feel loved, and when your life has been stripped away from you the way dani has (her family is gone, her friends are disappearing and your boyfriend is definitely not emotionally available), at that point you see the beautiful colors and the smiles and feel a sense of home. you yearn for it. even if its coming from complete strangers. even if its coming from a cult.
