The report is said to be based on information shared by a senior source in the Pentagon.
Tabatabai reportedly works as the Bureau Chief to US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin's aid for special operations. The report states that the Iranian American staffer is authorised to have access to very secret information.
The revelation comes as the FBI probes the leak of two highly classified intelligence documents.
