I think working towards energy efficiency is a good initiative both economically and environmentally. It reduces energy consumption, too.

The Modi government can do things like promoting energy efficient appliances for instance to reduce energy consumption. The government can do this by imposing a tax on goods that have low energy efficiency ratings and low to zero tax on goods with high energy efficiency rating. This will encourage consumers to purchase energy efficient appliances that will reduce their energy bills and greenhosue gas emissions.

In turn, consumes will become more environmentally minded and this could lead to more action by the Indian government on reducing greenhouse gas emissions or incresing energy efficiency.
