At first glance you’d think “what?! how could it beat an elder dragon?”
For those who haven’t delved into the lore of frontier, espinas as a species have evolved to be a counter to kushala daora
-they’re heavily armored scale plating repels all manner of attacks, including wind blasts and explosions
-they’re so toxic they’re very bodily fluid is poisonous, from there blood to even there saliva, hence why their fireballs can also inflict poison and paralysis
-plus every spike lining there body is tipped with there poison
This is why when you hunt espinas there always asleep when you find them, they’re that confident in their natural armor, most creatures will either die from the poison or give up in Shear exhaustion

I’m really glad to see that some Turf Wars are loyal to the lore. There was some lore that stated that Espinas were known to fight Kushalas and they did justice to it through this Turf War.

Not only is Espinas smaller than Diablos, but Kushala Daora is much heavier than normal Elder Dragons due to its steel skin. The fact that Espinas could toss it clear over its head shows its ludicrous strength! By raw strength alone it could be called Elder Dragon-level, and its heavy armour and poisonous/paralytic flames cement that position.

This is amazing, I mean in any other case I would have called bullshit on a normal Wyvern beating an Elder Dragon, but Espinas is literally Kushala Daora's worst enemy: heavy, with thick scales and filled with poison. The team knew what they were working on, and I'm so glad about that

People often forget Espinas is in the same tier of monsters like Ukanlos, Rajang and Deviljho of monsters who can and will throw down at the more normal elder dragons, Plus he pretty much counters Kushala with fire and poison.

Poor Kushala, not only did he get hit by a poisonous fireball, but Espinas was like "YOU WHAT MATE?!" after getting smacked and decided to toss Kushala over himself.

Opinion, these kind of "Elder Dragon being beaten through bad matchups vs powerful monster" should be an ongoing trope. We saw Kirin getting beat by Rajang, now Kushala being beaten by Espinas because of Espinas proficiency with fire and poison plus its sheer weight and strength making the Wind a no prob. I could see Bazel being a bane of the Fire Dragons, because of them being extremely resistant to blast and fire and actually having plenty of physical strength.

It’d be cool of some turf wars changed with the environment, for instance when Espinas rammed into Kushala, instead of flipping him he would impale him into the wall and deal massive damage

Most of the new turf wars are draws and can make either monster rideable at the end, in this one Kushala was Rideable but it's also possible for Espinas to become rideable instead, same with Rajang vs Kushala, Rajang vs Bazel, Mizu vs Astalos, Seregios vs Gore, Zinogre vs Lunagaron etc
