I love how she says "he's a cutie". It says a lot about her, her empathy and her heart. Also, "Johnny was young, never hurt no one, too early for that". Amazing words. Very sad that it sounds like the Jimmy that Johnny is running away from here is the same Jimmy from her Jimmy song.

I remember playing with one of my friends, which was only around 7, and she started to play this song, and she said "Yay! Johnny Run Away!". And I remember getting so emotional at the meaning, and the fact that the kid thought it was such an innocent song. This is the type of music we need.

I see a lot of people talking about Johnny being bullied for being gay by everyone, including his father. I personally do not interpret it that way. To me Johnny is gay. And his dad sees that, and accepts it. However, he fears johnny will be bullied so he tells him to hide it from the masses. I think this is a song about the cruel world of un-acceptance, and shame of the masses. However, i do not see johnny's father as un-accepting. i feel His father is simply scared for his son because all he knows is the masses, and the masses are cruel. Johnny's father feels like he is protecting him. in reality, though, he is hurting is stability and confidence for moving into adulthood.

P.S. Everyone interprets music differently. Id love to hear more thoughts! Also AMAZING SONG
