I watched this movie when I was a very young child, about 6 or 7. Loved it and found it later. I realized I can relate a lot to this movie growing up, not because it’s exactly my situation, but I really felt the insult and hate on my appearance as a teenager and now, even as an adult I can’t be confident in myself. i love this movie so much. i watched as a kid, like around 5/6 because my family had it. and as i kid i found it powerful, but I didn't even fully understand the movie. And I rewatched it A LOT throughout my life, but it wasn't even until i got way older that I fully understood the movie. And now at 20, I think I can definitely say this is my favorite movie of all time.

This movie fully exposes the entertainment industry, especially the idol industry, BUT I think the biggest take away is way women are perceived. When Hanna was fat, her voice was her way to get into the industry, but she could never be on stage. When she got surgery, she was perceived better because of her looks and it granted her a chance on stage. People hated her when she was fat and people will hate her now that she got surgery. Pretty women will always have priority to the stage. No matter what women can't win. This is stated over and over in the movie as when Hanna is talking to her best friend and they discuss the 3 types of women there are, and a bonus where her best friend tells her that women who get surgery aren't women, they're monsters.

I think a bunch of people misunderstand that this movie isn't a glorification of plastic surgery. It's a cautionary tale of the sacrifices people, especially women, and what they give up in the pursuit of a career they love. I love the ending, because she gets a miracle, she's more honest and gets fans because of her voice and story. But she also gets way more antis because of who she used to be. But the takeaway is that she doesn't end up Sang Jun, the man she's been pining for all along. They have an actual work relationship and though he loves her now, she got over him and focuses on what really matters to her. Her best friend and her dad. She risked her life for surgery and tried to get the unattainable, but in the end, she found herself. It's a beautiful story and I love it so much.

She has a beautiful voice. Surprising because a lot of Asian actresses also try to sing but aren't that great at it. Watching the movie now, has some funny parts to it, good flick. Much better than your average Hollyweird film IMO.
