I'm a fan of Jim Butcher's classification as established in the 2nd book of his Dresden Files series:
1. Lycanthropy - Speaks to the psychological disorder where some folks believe themselves to be werewolves but exhibit no physical traits.
2. Hexen wolves - Transformation is controlled and triggered by a talisman in ones possession
3. Werewolf (resulting from a curse) - Afflicted is cursed by some practitioner of dark magic. Has no control over the transformation, no memory of it either.
4. Werewolf (biological strain and/or mystical in origin) - Afflicted is typically bitten and acquires the ability to transform into a wolf while retaining ones sense of self.
5. Wolfwere - A wolf that can take on human form

"Therefore, not dog men, not wolf folk, nor any other similar creatures."

In other words, no furries.

I think Lycan is my favorite. Still monstrous and powerful without being too feral, or just a big dog like the Canis types.

I'm writing a book and I'm glad I found your channel because I was hoping to find some type of source or information to gain inspiration for my stories. Thank you

There is already a classification homid for human, glabro for wolfman, crinos for true werewolf, hispo for an quadruped version of true werewolf and lupus for regular wolf form.

I was kind of surprised to find I actually like the digitigrade wolfman form shown on the progression chart. Generally, I only like horse-sized wolves or upright bipedal forms somewhere between Lycan and True Werewolf. Fun Fact: The original Lycan design from Underworld was intended to be nearly hairless and more feline (lion specifically) than common werewolves, but this was reverted as they made more movies, adding hair and elongating the jaw in Evolution, and having outright werewolves based off of William's model in RotL. I feel like another classification should be added for werewolves similar to Remus Lupin who are ultra-skinny, can stand upright, but mainly walk on all fours. It doesn't quite fit the monstrous canis category seeing as he does look like a werewolf rather than just being a monster the author decided to call a werewolf.

Random opinion: the movie Van Helsing starring Hugh Jackman had the best looking werewolves.

The order 1886 feature werewolves that come off as a hybrid between the wolfman and true werewolves. They run in all fours, can speak, but are extremely creepy and intelligent.

I didn’t watch any werewolf videos in 7 years

Guess it’s a sign from YouTube

Now if we can only figure out why these guys don’t get along with vampires. They got the same issues as elves and dwarves.
