One of my earliest Royalties check was $175, 000. I showed my mother, and she couldn't believe it. She asked is that what you made for the whole year. I said no Mom this is just one check. My parents was shocked, being a musician and Producer _songwriter.. just try to make great Art. There's nothing more important than creating magic. Walking in a empty studio with expensive equipment. N come out with the beginnings of something special. I appreciate your support.

A lot of artists are songwriters though. Most artists that are not signed write their own music. But what you said is correct either way. I just thought that was an interesting angle.

You definitely need to do the second part, I am a big fan of your teachings and accept that you are the proof that there is such a thing as an original idea, and this show is it. For the first time in 20 years, I'm getting actual new information, thanks Casey

Very informative. I'm not a musician in any way at all, but always been fascinated by how the industry works after hearing the singer Jewel talk about how she became an overnight success. She played it very smart when there was a bidding war for her going on between the top 3 labels in the 90's. They offered her millions as a signing bonus, but she wisely realized that her brand of folk music is pretty niche and no guarantees. She took a very small advance of $100k and had the label rent a small apartment for her - she was living in a van at the time - and while touring, she drove herself to gigs and stayed in cheap motels, no band, just her and a guitar, so her overhead was very low and therefore so was her payback obligation to the label. Really fascinating story she laid out in her book.

Also, for me, as a fan, I'm someone who does not want the live "experience". I detest going to concerts - the obnoxious audience, the BO, you can never really hear or see the singer depending on your seat. Not for me. I don't even enjoy CD's, I think the sound quality is crap. I love my MP3's, I get to arrange songs on my computer playlists - I use Music Bee - in any order that makes sense to me, and the playlists are always evolving as I add new songs. That to me is the ultimate music experience - for me, music is personal, not communal - and I'm sure there are lots of other introverts like myself who feel the same way.

It really sounds like going independent is the best way. Be your own boss, be happy with having a cult following that will make you just successful enough where you make a decent living and cover all your expenses without vying for mansions and private jets, and you'll never have to prostitute your music to pay a mortgage by doing things you dont want to do. I also read that more people today are purchasing EP's instead of full albums, while a lot of artists are going the opposite route and releasing these 30-track double albums that would bore me to death. They don't understand that that the public today has a very short attention span. I think if I were going to start my own label, I would write a full album of about 15 songs on the same topic, and every four months, release an EP of 5 of those songs, kind of like chapter books. I think that would be a great way of holding your audience in suspense and have them looking forward to the release of the next EP. Sounds like a good idea to me. Shame I have no musical talent. But I am enjoying living vicariously through your channel 😀

I want to take your course regardless- I know I know I know I’ve been told you this… But I put these 12 songs out this year.. they been spinning. I went through the roller coaster of the music business in the early 2000s. And I’m just not sure right now, bro. I delt with major touring acts all the time.. I think some music was just made for records -and I’m not looking to go see them live.. (turning down Sade) you can’t see Atliens live- but I’ll twist that on wax real quick! - for your efforts and audience, I will absolutely agree with you! You are no question, the expert- and I am going to sign up for your course.! But there are some unique cases.. I’m not signing.
I don’t care what they offer. I’ve been down that road. Great show, brother. 🙏🏼 Respect

Always appreciate the videos. I love the encouragement to become entrepreneurs or business owners. At the end of the day if you're not building your dreams your building somebody else's. I just struggle with looking at my music as a business but your videos definitely help. I actually own a couple of businesses and don't understand why I can't turn my music into a business lol. I appreciate you

Casey thanks for the info🙌🙌!! If you can, please make a video about Artist Identifiers such as IPI, IPN, ISNI, ISRC and ISWC!!! I think its hard to understand how and when to get them in order to get paid as a songwriter.🙏🙏🙏

It sounds like the record label wants the artist to come in and write a bunch of music and make songs that the record label will own the sound recording to and then the label want the artist to promote the music, then perform the music, sell merchandise and everything, and then that's when the artist get paid from all the work that the artist does by themselves. This assuming the artist never accepts the advance the artist will be essentially doing everything for free if the advance has to be paid back. That advanced is just simply money given to the artist to promote music for free and telling the artist that the money is there to help promote their music meaning the artist music and the artist need to realize it's not them or "their" music that They are promoting (for free) it is the labels music and the money that the label gives you in advance, for promoting your music, they want it back while making money off of all of your free music efforts, and that is a crummy deal!

Is there a way I can buy your contract templates for my label without buying the course ?

Is it too much if fans start buying music on Spotify/youtube all these fuckin platforms instead of streaming and paying a monthly fee, but they just logg in for free and start paying for music
