At this point I totally agree with this and think this should be the next step for the web!!! Ditch the DOM, BOM and browser, except when you need HTML. If you need HTML, then embed that in the webstart app using webkit. Think big picture. I think Jim Weaver is thinking big picture architecture and it right on! I suggest Oracle build an open source webkit based browser that packages a JVM installer with it to get people used to including the JVM with the browser installation, to promote it.

Sun's / Oracle biggest mistake is making JavaFX proprietary again, it used to be open source
And if it stayed that way it would have enjoyed huge adoption by now

Uh, animation seems really slow... Swing is in fact much faster. Why JavaFX! They should have focused on improving Swing, and perhaps make heavy changes to it, but a separate client technology is a nonsense. Things like flash, silverlight... are in decline: with HTML5, Javascript and CSS3, they will not be used much. And the worst part is for java, whose JVM is great but yes, startup time is annoying. JavaFX arrived late.

prove me wrong: I want an example where JavaFX is useful & best solution

try too hard to get audience involved + audience does not bite = awkward

Too little too late. Look at that texture mapped cube. Who thought computers could do something like that. And still no good authoring tools to compete with Flash. Goodbye Java.
