Medieval Pilgrim Souvenirs & Secular Badges

An introduction to medieval badges and the work of the Digital Pilgrim Project, which ran at the British Museum from 2015-17.

By taking advantage of astonishing 3D-technologies, the Digital Pilgrim Project is promoting the study and appreciation of medieval badges. The project is intended to inform our art historical understanding of the use of images in medieval Britain.

It is using the collection of medieval badges at the British Museum as a case study. As part of the project, the collection is being digitised for the museum's online catalogue. At the same time, we are making 3D-images of a choice selection.

We are supported by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art. This short film was made with the help of the University of Cambridge's Humanities and Social Sciences film training workshop.
