I found this film quite by accident four years ago and love it. I was ten in 1969 so this film works for me as nostalgia as well as commentary on marriage and love.

The snowmobile scene illustrates the growing bond between John and Catherine as they have fun on the then new fangled snow machines. The horse and sleigh scene deepens this relationship further.

The Silent Night car scene with Janet and Phillip allow the four people to be a family even for only a brief time. Kids in the back seat, adults in the front. Even John who states that carols get him down enjoys singing it as he drives.

Ultimately the film is about two lonely, damaged souls who through each other find the courage and will to continue on, and live and love.

My absolute favorite, favorite film! Have been enjoying watching this (on tape) for many years, and it has become a seasonal/ritual event in my life. Love the sights of Amherst, Mass., my mother's hometown. Many changes, I'm sure, since this was filmed, but it's nice to see what my mother called "the common", back in the late 60's. Also, the Lord Geoffrey Inn. I'm not sure if I spelled that correctly, but it has such a pleasant and inviting warmth, and feel to it just like the movie conveys. It seems like we don't have these wonderful kind of movies/tv drama's around any longer. Times sure have changed since this movie was made, but it's always nice to revisit every Christmas season! 🎄 Happy Holidays!!

Filmed in Amherst but the story is set in Vermont👍 Nice to see vintage Amherst in the movie.

What's happened to this movie? It used to play at Christmastime but I haven't seen it for years. One of my favorites...
