May I jump in her and put that in context. I couldn’t stand losing to him. Rick and I got along, but when it came to racing I couldn’t stand it when he would chase me down and beat me. I hated that. I was older, I won titles first, I was at Honda first and I was letting myself down by not staying in front of him. I wanted and expected to beat him most of the time. That’s what I’m referring to here

David Bailey. For me, the poster boy of class, style, and skill. I've had the pleasure of witnessing this at Unadilla, Binghamton, Foxboro, Gainesville, and 4 times in Daytona. Broke my heart when he got hurt, but he kept on truckin. The man is nothing short of a Legend. Thank You David.

David, , I still miss you in the television broadcast booth.... you were absolutely the best at describing things in a casual but insightful manner that helped me understand what was happening on the track and helped me enjoy the races so much more...

Several people mentioned that you were one of their childhood heroes. Yup, this is 100% true for me too. You were absolutely the smoothest, coolest MX gladiator to ever throw a leg over a bike!

I had the opportunity of meeting David and Johnny O'Mara while in Florida racing the winter series back in 1984. My friend and I were out trail riding, and I'd just fallen over into a ditch when they pulled up on their factory Honda machines. They asked if I was ok, and I said that I was just practicing my falls, and we all had a good laugh. I remember Johnny checking his fuel level with a stick he picked up off of the ground. I met David later that year at the Buffalo Supercross. He's a super nice guy, and a total class act.

Back when i was a lil kid, we hit up a crazy track near Cherokee Ntl Forest area in NC, my uncle was on a quad running open class due to no other atvs showing up, he ran in the top of the pack with the bikes and got 5th..it was insane racing at its best .
Rick Johnson was racing, i saw him come out of the woods at top speed Front Tire was pointed down.. the damn rear fender was against the back of his helmet, my uncle snapped a picture of him in that position.. they slammed the dirt so hard .. i was just feet away from seeing a racing legend totally eat it in 5th wfo..

I would pay good money to have Mr. Bailey watch me ride for just 30 minutes to hear his words of advice.

He used to come into a place my wife used to work from time to time about 20 years ago, and she didn't know who he was. She finally asked how he ended up in a wheel chair. She comes home later that night and says "Have you ever heard of this motorcycle guy named David Bailey?" My eyes got big like you fucking kidding me! Ran into RJ quite a few times around San Diego. He was always pretty cool each time.
