the potential issue I see is being able to communicate with organizations that are not using the Googe platform or using slack themselves.

And the good big bonus points for Google Chat is the UX & UI that are way better than slack. Personnaly Slack in this way is horrible and a solution as Discord is way better than Slack on every aspects.
