Co-author of "Stay Woke," Tehama Lopez Bunyasi, breaks down how "woke" began and how it is being used in the run-up to 2024 elections.

Republican presidential hopefuls are vowing to wage a war on "woke," but a new USA TODAY/Ipsos Poll finds a majority of Americans are inclined to see the word as a positive attribute, not a negative one.

Fifty-six percent of those surveyed say the term means "to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices." That includes not only three-fourths of Democrats but also more than a third of Republicans.

Okay, woke USED to mean socially aware. But in the last few years, that has been coopted and twisted into this strange propaganda.

I confess, I used to be woke. I was easily triggered. I would protest everything that offended me, and demand it all be cancelled. Eventually I outgrew it, and went to preschool.

So what does woke mean? She wasted my time by not saying anything.

Some whites have taken a word that has been used in the Black Community since the 1930's to mean something that it is not. But, that is the world we live in.

Dont try to make this more than it is.

"Woke" was previously a word people would used to describe themselves (vitue signal) as a means to communicate that they have "woken up", "are awake" or otherwise disillusioned and aware of injustices in society etc etc.

However in recent years the term "woke" is instead used sarcastically in a satirical mocking of these people and their ideology. (Because their heads are buried in the sand)

I try not to use the word "woke". I use Leftist or similar whenever possible. I find "woke" to be cringey. "Woke" people are leftists who want to want to virtue signal, but don't actually mean any of it

You can makeup your own meaning or definition for woke. To me it means you cannot explain yourself.

She seriously struggled to spin it in positive light. It is not possible. It is an insult, because it became the term meaning ’unreasonably demanding of ...’ and 'ignorant'. There I fixed it for you.

Telling curious individuals of at least average intelligence that you're anti-woke is one thing, trying to convince a single one of those same individuals that you've also anti-racist is another thing.

The term woke was a black term meaning being aware of racism and racist white people’s BS. Period.

"woke" is the new biggest buzzword. Kind of like how "Communist" used to be an insult for whoever you didn't like in the 50s

She is woke. They have purposely made the words they use vague so that you can’t pin it down. Then they can say that you don’t understand. Get outta here! We know what you’re doing!
