Nose Job Recovery: What to Expect After Your Rhinoplasty

The pain following a rhinoplasty surgery is usually reduced after only a few days. Most patients of nose shaping surgery claim that the greatest discomfort is their difficulty breathing. The surgery causes the nose to swell, which leads to this breathing issue. But even the patient's breathing should become normal after a week or two.

While the cast over the nose is ordinarily taken off after the first week, the bruising may remain until the end of the second week as well. The last thing to return to normal is usually the tip of the nose. It may continue to feel unusually firm for a few months after the procedure, but that's completely normal.

Hi. It's Dr Dunkley from Envision Cosmetic Surgery. I'm frequently asked, "What is recovery like after a rhinoplasty or cosmetic nose shaping surgery?"

Recovery is not overly painful. Within days, most patients aren't taking narcotics but instead are just using IBUprofen or Tylenol. The biggest complaint after nose surgery is that patients can't breathe through their nose due to swelling which takes place. Breathing typically returns to normal within a week or two of your procedure.

The cast placed during surgery is removed at one week as well. Bruising is common and may take 2 weeks to resolve. After 2 weeks you should be healed enough to resume your normal activities. The nose, and especially the tip, is slow to completely heal. The tip of the nose may feel firm for many
months.
