This is actually wrong. After closer examination, the skull proved to be a Baboon skull, not the one of a lion. So, the hyenas who killed Scar (and prob ate him after, ) also probably ate Mufasa. Also, hyenas, if they could get to it, and we’re hungry enough, would probably eat Mufasa. And when talking to Sarabi, Scar said that now the hyenas would now eat first, so before that, the hyenas likely ate last, and were starving.

There was a hint at the start of the movie. Mufasa tells Simba that when lions die, their bodies become the grass. Besides, Scar knew the lionesses would have to see Mufasa's body, to believe him. Mufasa's body would be left to decay, as lions believed his body would make grass grow (really decade bodies do tend to fertilize the Earth).

This... is absolutely nonsense. Mufasa's head is much bigger, and if you watch the Lion King, you would know that mufasa is depicted as a huge lion, and the skull that Scar was playing with wasn't mufasa's head. The actual explanation is that scar after taking the throne didn't want anyone to challenge him and there were a lot of male cubs and scar not wanting anyone to challenge killed every single male we see this exemple with simba. And look at the skull again. it's too small, and if you type in google "cub skull, " it basically looks like the one scar was playing with.

So, according to much evidence, the skull belongs to a cub, not a full-grown male like mufasa.
