Watching this with my husband. He has a ton to say about prenups. He thinks that if someone is getting a prenup then they probably shouldn’t be getting married. I’m kind of with him on this. When we got married my grandpa tried to encourage me to get one. I could see his point of view. I did not get one. We were young, I had quite a bit of savings thanks to my grandpa, so he just wanted me protected. Well here we are 22 years later and still married. I’m still unsure how I feel about prenups.

In my state, from what I read a prenuptial agreement can have the choice of law be in any state. What states have very strong prenuptial agreement protections?

Bad advice ! The Prenup needs to be discussed with your Solicitor Well before even a Proposal NOT “Before the Wedding invitations are sent” A Prenup needs to be discussed with your GF/ partner right at the start. I think before you even go and talk to your solicitor. If you cannot get agreement to the concept of having a Prenup then is there any point in having one drafted. Do Not Propose until the issues of a Prenup are discussed and agreed. Once a Proposal has been made and accepted its full on wedding plans

Would love to hear what would make a prenup defective

I understand this would never replace legal counsel on drafting one, but it would be interesting to learn about and keep in mind as I prepare for legal consult

Me and my wife got married in 1988. We were both 25 and had 0 assets. We did not get a prenup. No reason to. Now, if I got remarried I would definitely get a prenup. I have a lot of assets. The reality is there are a lot of gold diggers out there.

Yes when I signed my prenup little did I know I gave away my rights to be emotionally mentally and verbally abused . He liquidated assets increased debt the year we were married. It was 2 weeks before we were leaving for Jamaica when the prenup was signed . I'm now 15 yrs later finding out what this man made financially what his net worth was/is. He manipulated and calculated this entire marriage, ,,, I will sit and watch him crumble .
