Thank you so much. I bought a mid 2009 MacBook (practically the same as the one you have there) and I kept getting the system overload. The freezing has helped me so much and That has also confirmed I can still run logic when I unofficially update it to Catalina

The sweet spot in using old Macs for audio recording is the 2012 Mac Mini QUAD CORE 2.3 or 2.6 GHz models with 16 GB RAM + a big SSD drive. These aren't dirt cheap machines by any means even to this day--these days they go for a good amount maxed out and renewed but still much cheaper than buying a new Mac--and for a lot of people they provide enough power if using it with Mojave and even more so the lightweight Reaper DAW.

4 things, cpu (highest single corespeed, ram (quickest latency, biggest size), hard drive (ssd biggest size), audio interface (quickest audio buffering, inputs and outputs to suit), and they must all be tune for latency with the correct drivers, even changing a videocard or videocard drivers can have a huge impact on latencies from the cpu processsing)
