Is Brake Rotor Surface Rust a Problem? | PowerStop

Показать описание
Has your vehicle been sitting for a long period and your rotors rusted over? Most likely it’s nothing of concern. Surface rust will be cleaned off with normal driving.

However, if the rust has gone so far as to cause pitting in the rotor you have a larger issue and may need to turn or replace it. This usually takes months of a car sitting.

I just put on new rotors and 3-4 days later they’re rusting!

YEP! My truck sat for over a month in the freezing rain and snow. I've noticed rough vibrations on the road and just took a nice look at the rotors. I see pitting and uneven grooves across them. My next uneventful project coming up!

For flash rust during normal use or after washing check out Hyde’s Rustopper to stop rust from occurring.

Love my PowerStop rotors and pads! I get the coated ones so the rust minimizes (key word is minimizes)

On another video about surface rust on rotors from sitting in rainy weather, or just sitting weeks not driving, someone suggested spraying soapy water before going for a drive, to accelerate the process of the braking removing the surface rust. Is this definitely helpful to do..? Thanks.

Just got in my new, 2500 mis, Kia Rio and it is making a horrific noise when applyin the brakes. The car has been sitting in the driveway for 4 days, and we have been having relativly warm wet weather. I assume that the rotors have accumulated some rust, but I didn't expect this kind of reaction from a virtually new car. Any ?deas?

Just installed Power stop rotors and within days it's been rusting even though we drive the car every other day at a minimum!... really disappointed

We will never buy Powerstop brakes again. We put these on our mustang and the rotors rusted and pitted. We went with Powerstop on our JK too and same thing. Powerstop replaced the mustang rotors and pads but won't warranty the JK so we'll be switching to a different company. Don't be fooled by this company's marketing tactics.
