Always so interesting! Because I buy many clothing items from thrift stores, often they're already washed and worn. Sometimes they're already out of style. I try to think outside the box when it comes to repurposing garments. When they are finally no longer wearable or repairable, I turn them into night clothes, gardening clothes, cleaning clothes, and rags. The important thing is remembering to change out of them when those tasks are complete and put on a stylish outfit for the rest of the day. I just continually remind myself of cost-per-wear and how they will eventually end up in the landfill. For my children's clothes, I make bags of hand-me-downs for friends. Currently my greatest challenge is just curbing the urge to shop. I already have an abundance and everything I need.

I liked that you mentioned that "just because a company is saying the 'right things'" doesn't mean they are DOING slow fashion design and manufacturing. I've notice that companies have started to "say slow fashion things" just to "be on board" with what they perceive as a consumer trend.

YES to circular action!! 💫 I'm so glad to hear you added this point, as I wear things til they break, and I want repairs done vs replacement!

Thanks for another great video Alyssa!! I plan to try and 'shop local' where I can for my wishlist where possible after questioning why I am buying sweaters made at the other side of the world, with thousands of air miles, when there are UK 🇬🇧 wool and knitwear manufacturers x

How lovely to take a quick break from meetings with your video, Alyssa! Lol! I would add made to order is another sign of slow fashion if you have patience, and shopping at companies that source and make their clothing in their/your region instead of shipping overseas. Thanks for sharing your tips, thoughtful and concise as always! 😊

Hi Alyssa, I love your take on slow fashion and and how you are stylish without too much consumption is inspiring. I have learned a lot from you. For years now I've been disheartened with the fashion industry. I couldn't bring myself to pay the price on a well made quality item. It always seemed too much for me. That is when I started shopping second hand. I frequent thrift stores, yard sales and estate sales. 95% of my closet is second hand and I love the creative process of putting these pieces together. It helps that I am into the 60s 70s and 80s style. Thank you for your great videos.

I am impressed with the company that refurbished back packs. I really appreciate your honesty in describing sustainability. When I was a kid my mom would up cycle my pants, putting cute patches on the knees and trims where the hem was let down. Then, we passed them on when I outgrew them. I think they went through at least three kids. Thanks again for sharing 💗

Dear Alyssa, I cannot say I am not tempted ... However, ironing and starxh ... And dyeing items I used to love but gave up on is my Easter activity though not on Good Friday or Easter Sunday! However, fresh colors like Robins egg blue, dusty pink and even a pale yellow are going to be my color explorations for some of the previous whites that are not so white any more!. Starch! Have fun and stay safe Alyssa! Xo 🇨🇦♥️Joanne

😑 It just take too much time to really research to really get a checking point and I don't buy retail too often and it more about what I am willing to pay for something and a lot of these site could be rather expensive or take a long time to get your purchase because they are not produced until you order. Good video to touch on the subject. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.

It is not easy anymore to get jewellery repaired. I did find a place but a I had to travel to Halifax, six hours away! I do repair and mend myself, if it is something simple!

Monica Vinader says they have a lifetime warranty but they don’t honor it. I purchased a very expensive (for me) necklace that I was hoping to wear for years to come. When it broke and fell off my neck due a manufacturing defect on my first wear, MV told me they couldn’t do anything about it because I didn’t have the pieces of the necklace to send back to them. They instead offered me a discount code and urged me to spend more money on new jewelry from the company. I had been a very loyal customer up until that point, but I won’t be buying from them again.

Hi Alyssa ~ I'm somewhat new to your slow fashion family. I have really been enjoying your videos on slow fashion and I am really inspired to shop my closet and find ways to make my wardrobe more sustainable and long term. A question, have you done a video on products you would recommend that can help our clothing items last longer (laundry products, deodorants, and the like)? If so, I would love to watch and learn.

I really enjoyed this video because as I am rebuilding my wardrobe I have not put as much thought into this aspect. I have only been trying to make the best purchases that will stand the test of time. I am looking forward to getting to the point where replacing something can be done with an even higher quality item as things wear. So this process really never ends but it improves and I am really enjoying all that I am learning. I walked into a store today to return a purchase that just didn’t work with the rest of my wardrobe and I had in mind a pair of earrings I wanted that would work really well with my wardrobe and a leisure type outfit for a plane ride or short car trip. I literally found both today…🤔🤔 Plus as I walked the store the one thing I wanted for sure was not on sale so I will wait and didn’t feel the need to make purchases on things “just because” it was such a liberating feeling. ❤️ I saved your video in my categories and I will use this one as a reference on how to approach future purchases. THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊 I am truly learning SO VERY MUCH
