Here is my take on the black van kidnapping: the kid didn't speak English, that is why she didn't answer. She was never reported missing because her family was undocumented. Without a child being reported missing the report wouldn't go anywhere. Unfortunately things like that happen and it is heartbreaking.

Someone knocked on my parents' door at almost midnight. The light was off because they had run out of candy. The guy was super creepy and had no kids with him. My dad told him to kick rocks. I'm so glad they didn't open the door out of politeness. I got them a Ring camera for Christmas after that
