I wonder how many OP fans forget that despite Nami’s greed, she’s the one who makes sure the crew has plenty of food and clothes for the voyages.

Nami and Usopp relationship is simply priceless with “don’t you dare mess with my bestie” vibe. The moment Nami asked Usopp to create a weapon for her and by that admitting she needs additional strength proved how vulnerable she can be.

I don’t think people realize how scary it is for Nami to ask for help.
Right after Bellemere dies, she gets kidnapped. And she obviously cries out for help. And Gen-San, who is like a father to her, tries to save her. And he gets cut up, still scarred to this day. It showed her that if people try to help her they’ll get hurt.

I always thought Nami's obsession with money isn't necessarily out of materialism but because it's survival for her

Nami's story is so emotional and so good. Her strength is admirable, especially when she forgives Hacachi in Sabaody and Jimbei in Fish Man Island. Such a good character.

I love the scene where Nami the first person to suggest to use the Skypea money to help fixed merry while other characters were interested in using it for their own selfish desires like more food, booze, books and fridge lock. Even Usopp didn't think of that. And she does it in the most Nami way possible in pretending to take majority of the money away for herself only to revealed her true intent of fixing Merry. This scene perfectly represented your point of Nami's obsession with money is not out of greed. This also shows how much she cares and value Merry as much as Luffy and Usopp does. She's not obsessed with money for materialistic reasons. She just views it as a safe heaven and as a non-violent solution to a problem. It's the easy most peaceful way of saving someone like Cocoyashi villagers and Camie

“Making a woman strong does not automatically make them a good female character.”
Please shout that to the MCU.

I feel like every time Nami says someone is in debt it’s just because she doesn’t want that person to abandon her, it’s like a way to keep a person close to her, an excuse to not loose them because she’s too afraid to verbally say she cares

For how mean she can be, one aspect I've always really liked about Nami is how she cares so much about children. From her refusal to leave the Punk Hazard kids behind, to her standing up to Ulti for hitting Tama in Wano, it shows just how much of an impact her mother had on Nami as a person, willing to risk her life for theirs in a similar way Bellemere sacrificed herself for children she wasn't even blood-related to. It's no surprise Oda said she'd be a child-care worker if she wasn't a pirate, because it fits her so well.

My absolute favorite thing about Nami is that, despite the fact that Zoro is Luffy's right hand man, Nami is squarely the second in command on the crew. Whenever the Straw Hats are faced with a difficult situation or important decision - where Luffy either isn't present or, frankly, too much himself to make an informed decision, it's always Nami who makes the final call.

In Skypiea when Enel was about to destroy the whole island and the whole crew had just reunited at the bottom of the bean stalk, in Sabaody when the crew was barred from entering the auction house and couldn't fight their way to Camie, in Punk Hazard when they discovered the kids Caesar was experimenting on, and most notably, in Dressrosa, where it was Nami who realised they had to get Momo and Caesar as far away from Doflamingo as possible when they had the chance, even if it meant splitting the crew.

I think Sanji, especially pre time skip deserves a lot of credit for being really important as a rogue agent who understands situations fully and does really important things like sabotaging Enel's ship or intercepting the Water 7 train, but Nami's ability to direct the entire crew to success is unmatched.

Also, the fact that she is so vulnerable compared to most other members of the Straw Hats makes it so, so much more impactful when she chooses to fight. She has some of my favorite fights and moments in Alabasta, Enies Lobby and Onigashima, because it is completely clear the stakes to her own safety are so much higher than they are to Luffy, Zoro and Sanji, and yet she still chooses to wholy and truly commit herself to her crew and their allies.

I love Nami so much. Stealing a cloud from Big Mom was absolutely the upgrade she needed. Nothing says cat burglar like stealing a part of a Yonko's soul and making it her partner in crime. She's arguably the best written female character in all of One Piece. And I'm definitely riding the Nami is going to get conqueror's bandwagon. She's a Queen. The weather goodness herself.

Nami having a "soft spot for women" makes so much sense to me as I was raised by only my mom and my sister (with the majoroty of my close family member being women as well) I find it hard to trust men and tend to feel more comfortable when dealing with women.
I love Nami so much and feel realy sad some people in the One Piece fandom can't seem to look past her physical appearance, usually reducing her to just a pair of huge (although gorgeous) boobs.

Huh. I hadn't even realized that people think of Nami as weak. Her kit has been insanely broken ever since Zou. It's crazy that her epithet is still "cat burglar", it should be Weather Witch.

Hearing fellow Nami fans defending and saying wonderful things about her character always brings a smile to my face.

she forgives jimbei that was a really big character development for her especially because of her relationship with Fishman in the past their relationship is precious

Another cool thing I like about Nami is that recent arcs seem to be pushing a more "motherly" aspect of her, as if she is inhering Bellemere's character. From the PH kids, to Tama, to the wounded Zou citizens, Nami is often finding herself in a position of caretaker, nurturer, etc. And while that's a traditional female role, I like when it's done in a way that doesn't insult the viewer's intelligence. And it works with Nami because, like you said, caring about others is something she really wants to do but is afraid to be seen doing. I was half expecting Nami to adopt Tama at the end of Wano, and I suspect she will adopt someone by the time OP ends, be it Tama or someone else (maybe one of the seraphim), to conclude her motherhood arc.

One element of Nami's character that you didn't really touch on is her cowardice, similar to Usopp and Chopper. Which also ties back into Nami's backstory because she had to rob pirates of their treasure as a child, and she wasn't strong enough to beat them so she always had to run away to escape with the money.

Something I love is her relationship with Usopp!! Probably one of the strongest friendships among the Straw Hats and you can feel they truly see each other and care for each other. Nami always acted nicer to Usopp then a lot of the other boys and I think that also is probably due to his more emotional openness, as well as having to work with brains over brawns!

There’s a countless number of scenes between them but one of my favorites is when Usopp first loses the money in Water 7 and confides in her that he felt ashamed. He felt so horrible for losing the money and he probably felt Nami was mad at him for doing so, but never once does she blame him. She shows an immense amount of care and outright says she doesn’t care about the money. Another great example of her putting friends and empathy over money!

I am the #1 Nami defender. She gets way too much unwarranted hate in my opinion and while everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, I do think a lot of it is a result of people misreading her character. Which makes me sad because she is so exceptionally well written.

I never really saw the point you made about how Nami realized money keeps the ones she loves alive. But the Bellemere scene and the way she realized "this wouldn't have happened if we had money" honestly made me tear up a little. Thank you for making that point. I believe it wholeheartedly.
