How to use the Shove Tool End of a FirePik

PLEASE READ: Many people, presumably locksmiths and construction workers, are pointing out that this tool will not work if the lock is installed properly. In my 20 years in the fire service, it is rare that we come upon a perfectly installed door and lock. If you do, all you have to do is use an aluminum wedge to gap the door where the lock is. This will cause the deadlatch/deadpin/anti-loiding pin to fully extend and then this tool will work. Future video will show this.

If the strike plate and door are installed correctly this will not work. However it is EXTREMELY common for them to be misaligned allowing this attack to work often enough for this tool to be worth it. If you are ever locked in, you can use a credit card, (although it may not work depending on the specific door’s geometry). A bent wire coat hanger can work for really loose doors too. This tool will work better though as it is more ridged and reliable. This is also a great tool to have if you have kids or pets so they can’t lock them selfs in.
Yes dogs and cats can lock them selfs in rooms if the door closes and they are jumping up on the door pawing the lock. It has happened to me and my dog was stuck in my room for a while. Not before he panicked and dug a hole in the floor and tore up the curtains. It wouldn’t have been bad if I could just have opened the door easily and quickly with this tool instead of fumbling with credit cards and wire.

I am confused. If you have to slam the door shut to use the tool. Then you already have the door open.

never thought i'd use one of these for hvac work to get through doors in buildings where the building engineers or security guards either do not have the right keys or they have no access to it and want me to fix the AC RIGHT NOW!

On locks made in the last few decades this only works if your strike plate is improperly installed. Latch slipping only works if the deadlatch plunger (the tiny spring loaded peice next to the main latch) isn't properly engaged. That plunger should be pushed in by the strike plate and it will lock the main plunger from being retracted. You can test this by holding down the deadlatch plunger with your finger and trying to push in the main plunger.

Again, these only work if there's a fault with the security latch (that half-barrel pin) or the striker plate.

But that's from the interior, the difficulty comes up when you have to do it from the exterior.

Your doing this from inside! No need for a tool for that. You will have a much harder time from the outside, especially with you solid straight tool.
