As a blind person, this excites me. It puts me on equal footing in many ways as other people.

Visiting museums with these is a good use case. Personal comments at your own pace, with the ability to ask related questions to deep dive into the history of a painting, an artefact, a sculpture, and so on

What's cool is that we're seeing physically working prototypes - they actually work and seem to work quite well. The catch is the cost; yes, we can build these but not currently at a cost that anyone can afford (or would be willing to justfify). That changes up the equation from where we usually find ourselves; the challenge is to get the cost down, either through reducing costs associated with the current prototype components or by finding acceptible alternatives at a lower cost (possibly with some compromises in capability). It will be interesting to see where this stands in 5yrs.

I know someone who is blind, who was so excited when gemini 2.0 live came out. He can just have his phone out and "see" through Gemini effortlessly. Imagine going on vacation in NYC and you can see again through this assistant. Or browsing the web without all the hassle. Or sitting on a park bench where you can enjoy the view for the first time in 15 years and see people passing by. It's incredible

Anyone who says AI is just hype isn't getting that this tech is already changing people's lives in ways nothing else can.

The chip in your head will be the final hardware.

Why need a leveler for a shelf, should AI glasses not be able to project a horizontal line onto the wall?

@3:07 you state “the final form factor of artificial intelligence is going to be glasses”. I’m going to disagree… the final form factor of artificial intelligence is going to be neural implants. First as chips, later as nanotechnology.

the final form factor for humans enhanced with ai will be brain to microchip interaction and communication. Be it internal, like neuralink or external like how other companies are doing it.

These prototype glasses have been coming out for decades, it'll only be truly useable when people replace their smartphones for them.

"with glasses you'll feel like you're a local"
um, no, you won't, lol

I also don't want to wear glasses all day. They would be useful for navigating around unfamiliar streets or providing stats at sporting events but I enjoy being glasses free 99% of the time. The other big factor is cost.

Great summary. No light in the background! Well done. I'm happy.

Not going to lie, the thought of everyone wearing smart AR glasses all day sounds downright dystopian. This will completely replace smartphones, and we've already seen how overuse of those is mostly negative to mental health.

At least with phones most people won't look at them if preoccupied with other things, but once glasses go on your face they're very likely not coming off, so we're going to have corporations subtly pumping product marketing and ideologies all day long.

Sure this tech will come with helpful utility, but when you factor in that these types of glasses will amplify smartphone-like dependence 100x, I think that's a disaster, particularly for young developing minds.
