My mom use to mix powder milk with whole milk to make 2 gallons of milk from one gallon of whole milk.

I bought two bags of Great Value Non-Fat Powdered Milk a couple of years ago. I never used them and they passed the Use By date 13 months ago.
After watching this video, I decided to be brave. I opened one of the old bags and made a gallon. Then I stuck it in the fridge for an hour. Then I took it out and added 1/3rd Cup of sugar and 3/4 Tablespoon of Vanilla Extract. Stirred it up and sampled a spoonful.
It is absolutely DELICIOUS!! It tastes exactly like melted vanilla ice cream. So, the next time I make a gallon of it I will only use 1/4 Cup of sugar and the 1/2 Tablespoon of vanilla extract.

Great info. Thank you. I don't drink milk so I do buy powdered milk to cook with. I put a small quantity in a paper lunch sack. Fold top over once. Put in vacuum seal bags and seal up. Keep in storage in my basement. This way I can repackage it into very small quantities that are usable for me. The brown paper bag keeps it a bit darker and keeps my vacuum sealer from sucking up powder. I have been doing this with powdered milk and flour for years. Works very well.

This is a no nonsense lady. She gets right to the point and explains why you do what you do. She has a great sense of humor.

Powdered milk mixed and refrigerated overnite was what was served in our household when I grew up in the 60’s. It was a thing, for some reason, even though my parents grew up on farms 😉 But so was instant tea, coffee, koolaid, margarine and lots of other not healthy things!

I used to freeze canned milk in ice cube trays and add a cube to the powdered milk and that helped the taste. My sister freeze dried a can for me so I can add a bit of it to the powdered milk. Vanilla helps and cocoa mix is good. My mother in law mixed whole milk and powdered milk so it was less expensive and it really didn't taste bad when it was cold. She had 5 boys so needed to cut corners as much as possible,

Use old black socks over jars to keep light out. Also protects from braking. Store out of light like all jared canned goods.

You can use old socks, and cut so you have a way to pull over the canning jar or any jar, and put the lid on and pull a sock over, 1.keep from clanging and keep light off jars..I learned this from Heidi at rain country homestead

I actually like powdered milk better than regular. I put it in a shake maker cup with the little mixing ball in it and add a few ice cubes and shake it up real good to make it good and cold.

I have 2 kinds of powdered milk, the nonfat instant milk that is Walmart brand, and Nido which is whole milk powder. The nonfat instant milk is more granular and I have found that running it through my Ninja Storm pulverizes it to a more powdery form and it's way easier to reconstitute. I don't buy it to drink but use it in pancake mix, cream of soup mixes, gravy mixes, etc. I have also used the nonfat version several years after the best buy date and there was no issues.

I use it for emergency cooking ingredient. I vac seal in pint jars and I have made " Little pillow cases " with a tie slip the jar in it and put it on the shelf. My panty is cool and it stores well. I use a dark material that right now has cows on it My mother for awhile would buy a gallon of milk - pour 1/2 into another clean empty gallon container, then mix up 1 gallon of powered milk and put 1/2 in with the 1/2 of regular milk. We never knew till she got caught mixing it up. We never noticed a difference. Just saw 2 jugs of milk in the fridge.

As a kid I remember my mom disguising instant milk. She would do half instant and half whole milk to make it last longer...yes we were poor but it worked and it kept milk on the table for the five of us kids. Still not a fan of it though but in a pinch I would use instant. Nice to know about the sugar and vanilla. Thanks🥰

My mother used to make a mixture of Carnation non fat dry milk and whole milk in a pitcher. The other half of the gallon was used for cereal . We would put chocolate or strawberry Quik or
Ovaltine when we drank it. I used it to make tapioca pudding . Takes 2 cups so I make one whole milk and one powdered milk. I am a milk drinker at 69 . About 1/2 gallon a day . Three a week . What ever little bit is left on shopping day I use to make buttermilk.

A spoonful of sugar helps the powdered milk go down! Love your video

We grew up on commodity powdered milk. Memories of lumps of dry milk plopping down into my bowl of cornflakes is enough to make me gag. I store the Nido brand dry milk for cooking but no situation could ever make me drink it.

Glass containers have worked for me. I don't like freezing milk, need freezer space for other things. I use old socks to put over jar to keep light out.
