Jasper wildfire: Future of town could look very different, mayor says

It's the start of a long road for the town of Jasper, as the community begins rebuilding the homes and businesses taken by a wildfire just weeks ago.

While much of the brick and mortar will remain the same, some districts could look very different.

"I would anticipate that we will see higher densities,” said Mayor Richard Ireland. “That certainly has been an indication from residents already anxious to rebuild.”

Global’s Jaclyn Kucey explains how and why the town could change.

Hopefully, all the good billionaires can swoop in and buy as many damaged properties as they like..

With the fact that they're already moving forward with densification plans. One cannot ignore the fact that the fire seems planned.

Get ready folks. If East Palestine and Lahaina are any indication of what's in store for Jasper. The money is expected to move in soon. They will want to purchase the land. And the people will be kept out and in the dark.

With a federal body in charge of issuing permits we can be assured it will be a lengthy process…

Higher density housing means a larger population, which means larger infrastructure needs, including water, sewer, electricity, grocery stores, schools, which means more draw upon the natural resources of this townsite inside a national park..
Somehow, i can't see this happening.

They planned the 'higher density' redevelopment plans LAST SPRING 2024 when they had meetings about how to make Jasper more WEF compliant in the form of a 15 minute 'city'. A suspicious person would conclude that this fire was a great way to quickly fulfill their agenda.

Managed retreat will ensue, move those populations into smart cities, this is prime oligarch land.

I think a lot of out of towners like myself are grieving about what these fires have done to the townsite and the park itself.😢

I smell a 15 minute city. Build back better right?

Maybe a select group of people wanted this all along

Create some type of defense against fires first before building.

Like what ruin it like Banff. Charge ridiculous parking and make sure it cost $100 just to visit.

$38 to park at lake Louise and $30 parking Banff?!?!

That was intended. Directed energy weapons and "SMART" city.

Rebuild with Higher density ….
Like everything you need within 15 minutes or less type of density …🤔
Feds in charge ….

Let's hope they hold a standard of building back in the picturesque western style of "national parks rustic" as some recent hotel renovations in the town have done instead of going with some hideous abysmal out of place modern mess.

Could it possibly be a 15 minute city!?! ... Problem, reaction, solution ... The oldest trick in the book

Any plans to build a proper fire guard around the rest of the town?

Look at Lytton, BC. 3 years after the fire, they still haven't started rebuilding. Too many layers of government. Monte Lake burned the same year and we have rebuilt. We're too small to be noticed by all the bureaucrats that were talking in this news clip.

WEF puppets. Jasper has been slated to be a 15 minute city. Good luck with that!

What a shock to hear this. I never would have imagined they’d go for higher density…
