Been doing it for over forty years now, absolutely no fear of heights. The trick to doing it: I tell new guys that you have to stop looking at everything in a 3 dimensional way. You have to train your eyes to see in a 2 dimensional manner! Never focus on what is beyond your immediate surroundings, only let your eyes focus on what is within your reach and your feet, everything else does not matter one bit and can kill you but only if you focus on it. It's similar to a child hiding under the covers from the boogeyman, they hide their eyes from the perceived danger. It's the same thing basically, reject ALL beyond your immediate surroundings! Don't look at it, do not focus on it, only focus on what you are working on!!! If you can do this then you'll be able to do your job in a proper manner with death standing right by your side at all times, Death is gonna be impressed watching you do your job and after a while, Death will go check out what the new guy is doing. No shit, this is how I have been able to work at extreme heights where Death is certain with one little fuck up. Your gear has to be top of the line and inspected repeatedly during the work day also, your life depends upon the weakest point of your gear, this is why it is inspected through out the work day and NOT daily or weekly, it's inspected every single time you go out/up!!!
