I am a registrant. I have been battling the scrutiny and harassment for years. Eventually I moved to a relaxed state and was able to live a somewhat normal life. I now have a good job, a spouse, and yes, children. I'm an active church member and supportive of my children's sports events and intrests. I can deal with people harassing me. But recently they have began to harass my spouse and children. People are extremely ignorant to the facts about the registry and the odds that someone who has been through the system to offend after being placed on the registry. I advocate for changing the registry to only be available to law enforcement.

I have always said where does the punishment stop? The registry is a direct violation of human rights. Once u do your time, that should be it. It's nuts.

The sooner the sex offender registry is done away with the better.

Time to abolish the sex offender registry

In my experience social workers don't care one jot about minimizing trauma for sex offenders' families, their only concern is to cover their backs by keeping the children of the family away from the sex offender dad regardless of the specifics of the case, regardless that the offences were never contact, regardless that the offences were never against his own children. It's just a blanket reaction to the label, the only response they have time for or are capable of. The simple question 'what if something happens with this guy who is registered and we didn't do anything?' no matter how unlikely, they simply won't take the risk. Total selfish back-covering has become an entrenched tyranny.

The S.O.R. desperately needs reform, now. Once offenders serve their time they have paid their debt to society and should be given another shot at life, not lifelong social leprosy. I say this as an abuse survivor. We need a humane, civilized system that helps all parties move on and function in society.

Education is powerful when it comes to understanding the impact what the registry does to many people and why it doesn't help society at all. Thank you do much for this post.

This video should have more likes! I understand in 2nd Chances. There quite a lot on the registry that are homeless No one will rent to them. If they reoffend I do agree with locking them up. Some do deserve Prison time. It really depends on the nature of the offense. Some end pleading guilty even if there innocent. Usually going to trial will result in a mandatory prison sentence.

why isn't Bill Clinton on the registry?

This amounts to cruel and unusual punishment. I never thought I'd be against SORs until I watched a Ted Talk by a man put on there as a teen for statutory rape. They wanted to keep him in prison for life. It's great if you get a chance to watch it.

Never give user RedeemingPatriots your email or join his chat group. He revealed he wants this info for "vengeance" (his word). Beware.

I know someone who called the police for damage to property and harrassment
the police did nothing and they knew who it was.. they even broke a big front
window picture window.. they still did nothing they threatened offers life still
did nothing the offender did nothing to a child, but they always call him a child
molester.. what gives. registry is causing this..

I was wondering if this guy who talks on the video did something like send the letter to the state legislators where he lives in, tell those legislators that the sex offender registry do more harm than good, SORNA is unconstitutional and cruel and unusual punishment?

Delved into this very sensitive matter for 4 years. Keenly, the very strict residency restrictions on a sex offender registrant generally means the registrant must surrender custody of one's blood family members who are not of statutory age, or that registrant faces arrest and jail time.

This is especially for sex-registrable crimes like forcible sodomy, or statutory rape of a lower-than-statutory age blood relative.

Family members who are adults who have a member on the registry are also targets of threats, harassment, extortion, hatred attacks, sightings, discrimination--and even worse--assault, battery, arson, vandalism, burglary, robbery, and/or even murder (usually hitman murders or contract murders). Not just the sex offender registrant oneself!

The SOR should have a limit because it is like prison for people.Continues to punish.

I have realized this for sometime now. But the more people marked the more they can control

The simple fact is that here in Northern California I have people going begind me and sabotaging everything and I am actually innocent and was forced to plead. Part of the stalkers here are onnected to Parole who have tight community ties. Also have other registrants staulking not to mention drug dealers and sex traffickers.

To make a person suffer for life, is just wrong. how do you cope with no job, home or common courtesy day after day, year after year

not all sex offenders even raped anyone. Does that seem right ? happens all the time.
