So I'm going to tell you guys a weird but very personal story to me about Brendon..

One of my best friends passed away from Cystic Fibrosis mid 2019 and kid you not, is a spitting image of Brendon. He used to have dark curly hair that he grew out, high(er) voice and always wanted to learn how to scream, little stash and barely any beard, played bass and always dreamt of being in a band, always had that metal angry attitude when playing or listening to music but couldn't hide how goofy, lively and kid like he always was. Genuinely was the light in every room, no matter how crap treatment, CF or life in general was. I introduced him to metal, but funny enough never to Structures or Northlane for some reason, even though they were some of my favourite bands at the time (and still are).

I went to see Northlane here in Perth, WA end of 2019 after he passed away and was shocked when I saw Brendon on stage literally looking exactly like my best friend. His appearance, his vocals, his bass technique, how he over exaggerated every move instead of just head banging, how nice and goofy he was. Since then I've followed Brendon and have grown super fond of him (not in a weird fangirl way 😉)

I've always thought that Brendon was living exactly the life my best friend always dreamt of if he wasn't sick. For some weird but inspiring reason, I've always been stoked about how great Brendon has been doing in the scene, it was like seeing my best friend live his dream life.

The day he and Northlane announced his departure, I dare say I was a bit heartbroken. I honestly thought Brendon won't be active after leaving Northlane for some time until I saw Structures releasing this beast of a comeback tune!

Brendon, if you're reading this man, I just want to say thanks for all the amazing tunes over the years and for keeping my best friend's memory alive through music, even though you might not know it.

When a band comes back after a long time away like this, it’s always fascinating to see whether or not they have evolved or are stuck in the year of their last record. These guys have clearly figured out the newer era and somehow already seem to have mastered it in a single track.
