I remember my father telling me when he was in the army, his unit had to go to belson to help and clean up .
But on getting there were told to wait on the other side of the fence .
There was a lot of soldiers already there .
And disease was rife .
His first most memorable and heart breaking sight, was of a mother holding on to her baby .both dead .
Of course there was a lot more heart breaking sights waiting .

When I worked in London I worked with an ex British soldier who was there. He said he couldn’t describe what he saw. I understand why. Remember there were good Germans who opposed this regime and paid for it it’s their lives.

My grandad was here with the 11th armoured brigade, he was in a tank with the Coldstream Guards armoured division 21st army, used flamethrower units( open top Bren gun carrier converted) I imagine because of the typhoid, a German town was marched to the camp to help clear body's

i read anne franks diary.i watched the old anne franks movie of 1959(?) and seen most was of the diary high points.good movie but then i got the movie, 'anne frank:the whole story', version with ben kingsley as otto.this movie was of her life and you will pick up parts from her diary but it is not 'out of' the diary so to speak.it is the most powerful and engrossing movie i have ever seen.if you have even a little compassion in your heart, this movie may move you beyond words as it seems like you are a part of the family.RIP to all those that perished...

I served in Germany in 1959 and know nice people there, but where did this side come from?
