Shipwreck Navagio Zakynthos Greece

Navagio or Shipwreck Beach, located on the northwestern coast Zakynthos, is a must-see. No trip to Zakynthos would be complete without a stop here. A ship smuggling cigarettes ran ashore here in 1983 while being chased by the Greek Navy. The ship is fully on the beach which is surrounded by huge white cliffs. It is only accessible by boat, and there are many options available. Most leave from Porto Vromi, south of the beach, some from Ag. Nikolas port, and even some from the nearby Lighthouse at Skinari at the northern tip of this island. Some boats stop at both the Shipwreck and the Blue Caves. It is best to try to get on the first boat of the day to avoid the crowds during mid-day. There are no umbrellas or chairs on the beach, so be sure to bring an umbrella if you plan to stay long. The sun reflects off of the white cliffs, and there is no shade on the beach.
