General aviation can join all the major automotive and aviation companies that have already left with not even one remaining. If Silicon Valley’s companies leave they will be bankrupt.

It is my understanding the fed passed a bill this year preventing this, as I understand it, if you currently sale 100LL, you must continue offering it. This same bill also helps with urban sprawl pushing airports out, if the airport was there first the airport stays, well harder to close it anyway.
Again as I understand it, I haven’t read the bill at this point but I do plan too.

Well, I certainly hope that GAMI can overcome the stuff that's holding them back from marketing G100UL. We could implement that in California today if people would get off of their behinds.

Also seen someone say G100UL has value recession issues but that is not true: the recession issue was with UL94 used in higher compression engines. The higher the compression the more sensitive non-hardened valve seats are to forming microwelds.

FWIW Lycoming switched to hardened valve seats in the early 2000s. Continental did that in 2017 IIRC. With hardened valve seats there are no valve recession issues even with low octane unleaded fuels - that's why car makers made the switch in the 70s/80s.

Worst case if your engine is higher compression and lower quality mild steel cylinders the problem is fixed at the first top overhaul by replacing the jugs. All available cylinders these days have hardened valve seats.

But again the vast majority of engines don't have valve recession issues with G100UL as it stands.

If you're curious some of the lead reactions with the dichloroethane and dibromoethane is a very mild anti-microweld compound which is what protects crappy mild steel from forming microwelds when the valve is smashed into the seat during combustion. Those compounds are present to ensure the lead reacts to form compounds that are gasses at cylinder temperatures, otherwise you'd have metallic lead fall out of solution and foul everything immediately. That's also one reason you don't want to run cylinders too cold: the various lead bromides and lead chlorides will precipitate out and ruin everything if you run the cylinder cold.

I give it 50/50 at best that we’ll meet the 2030 deadline. We have a fuel right now that can be a drop in replacement with the G100UL but because some of the alphabets out there aren’t able to get a slice of the pie they are denying any forward movement.

Yet again another reason I built an airplane that can run on motorgas. 🤷‍♂️

I live in an air park community. A few years ago, a family of non-pilots was considering buying a house in our neighborhood. They then discovered aviation was taking place here and we were using leaded fuel. OMG. That was a breaker. They decided that the lead in the fuel was going to poison their children. Luckily stupidity in this case worked out to our advantage.

Without question, lead in fuel is a harmful pollutant, and from what I understand, one has to try hard not to see the harm it causes. The sooner we find the resolve and ability to ban it without destroying our engines, the better. And I love to fly!

They should have banned the sale of new avgas engines 40 years ago, and phased our avgas for mainstream use 20 years ago.
