Making An $18,000 Luxurious Bowie Knife

This $18,000 Bowie knife took me over 250 hours to make!

I take you on a journey through the creation of a one-of-a-kind bowie knife I call Luminous. Over 250 hours of hard work went into turning raw materials into this work of art. Every strike of the hammer, every precise cut, carries the weight of thousands of dollars, and the potential for loss looms ominously at every corner.

The first step in making this bowie knife is creating the Mosaic Damascus pattern, a beautiful mix of alternating 1084 and 15n20 steels. The process involves forge welding layers together with a hydraulic press and squaring the billet to create the distinct W-shaped Damascus pattern.

After several stages of stacking, welding, and re-squaring, I reveal the mesmerizing Mosaic Damascus pattern that will adorn the blade of the Luminous Bowie. The blade takes shape with a Sheffield-style clip.

Moving on to the handle, I carefully craft fossilized mammoth ivory scales, adding a carved quilted pattern, inlaying argentium silver pins and unique domed pins, creating a classic and elegant design.

Finally, the blade is brought to life with a hair-popping razor edge, and the knife is assembled with precision. The gun-blued fittings complement the Argentium silver pins and the polished mammoth ivory scales, resulting in a stunning and functional work of art.

I hope you enjoyed this journey from concept to creation of the Luminous Bowie knife. It's a testament to the creative process and the dedication required to turn raw materials into a masterpiece. Thank you for watching, and may the forge be with you.

This is blade-smithing on a whole other level. You are not just a knife maker. You are a visionary with the ability to execute your visions. A jeweler with the patience to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. There really are no sufficient adjectives or superlatives to adequately describe the art that you create. It is excellence to the 10th power! Thanks for sharing your expertise. It is greatly appreciated ... and perhaps even envied!

It's refreshing watching an EXPERIENCED perfectionist pro making awesomeness. TOO MANY of the knife related videos are less experienced people trying something out for the first time with average results at best, instead of getting good at it off camera first, so theyre teaching people what not to do, with clickbait titles that usually don't tell us they are trying something for the first time or whatever. Just AWESOME artistry from a skilled perfectionist, making it look easy. I hope to have that level of skill one day!

Для таких талантов должны проводить чемпионаты мира с большим призовым фондом потому что они делают стоят эти экземпляры большие деньги.

The voiceover explanations to things really lends itself to the video, well worth the extra effort - just as all the extra effort you put into your craft has been worth it. Stay sharp!

I watched Cam from Blacktail Studio make a cabinet from wallnut sticks and he´s asking 29k for it. Compairing that to this, i have to say that yours is masterpiece. Ok they are not the same object but still...the craftmanship, details, proportions...everything is so much more professional that i'm sure that your knife is worth every cent you are asking for it. Thanks for the video! Mesmerizing to watch.

Your press is so cool I love bowies, best knife ever. This blade is obviously magnificent. I like your angle grinder, that's the best tool I think I own. I always felt like a Blacksmith, you know how some people have a green thumb, I think I have a black hammer thumb. At work I was using hammers to bend some metal and we bent a rail to make a part, they were like how do you know this, and I didn't know how I knew how, lol. They said, maybe you used to be a Blacksmith, I said no just good with a hammer I guess. It's like fabrication, that's what a Blacksmith does, exactly what we used to do sometimes, except we made machine stuff and you make shiny weapons.

I am still a brain surgeon with one of those grinders now, I love it now from work and spending hours and hours grinding, cutting, almost chopped my finger off once. There's no mistakes at work, makes you accurate to cut 6 feet in a straight line, seems impossible but no you can get fairly close to a line, good tool, for many cutting tasks that people can do from concrete to steel, even glass tile I think can be cut, high grade porcelain is the toughest material I ever seen, omg it was hard to cut or drill and steel seems easy, compared to that. I feel If I had some basic stuff like a forge and anvil I could maybe forge something, nothing like this but something sharp, something raw, carve a handle or a tang. As long as I can hammer the billet, into shape but I would have to start somewhere, probably do a axehead.

If anyone think that’s expensive, just make a quick calculation (18k for 250 hrs +). It clearly shows this piece is definitely on the cheap side considering Kyle’s unparalleled level of craftsmanship.
