Old Aatrox was the most OP jungler of all time. His guardians angel passive revive the best lvl 2 ganker. His Q was a dash knock up and his W healing stance would net all your hp back while clearing camps. Not to mention his ultimate basically gave him Kayles passive gaining 550 range and movement speed add that with his W damage stance he was a nightmare late game jungler too.

Old Aatrox was good on launch but he got nerfed to shit and abandoned by the balance team. The probprm was always numbers which was demonstrated by his mini rework.

Old irelia I miss more for basics

E as a stun if you get dove, W gives you select trading power for a set of autos, q is a bit buggy but so nice to combo with r for wave management.

Her kit had so many options for being so simple - just like anivia a perfect design imo.
Old aatrox was similar - missing both of those simple auto based champ designs.

you are right august, now I DO feel a wow moment when aatrox one shots me healing with his 100% omnivamp for half his hp with antiheal on him. Jokes aside, I really liked playing old aatrox and he didn’t really feel underwhelming for me as all the champions were way simpler back then. The pick rate spoke for itself tho, I guess

I think this is a good way of looking at it. Every champion needs one or two things that makes you go "wow, thats really op". If its too strong, then at least it can be balanced later. The big problem with modern designs is there isnt just one thing that makes them op, its their whole kit making them a nightmare to balanced until they get a complete midscope rework. Even the most uncomplicated old champions have something that makes them uniquely op. Kog'Maw's W and Annie's passive come to mind as good examples, but you can come up with something for every champion.

The old one gave less of a souls boss gameplay vibe but it felt like I was playing a doom character just constantly hack and slashing. Both are fun
